I usta post lots about restaurants here but have not recently. last night we tried Beets for the first time. So many restaurants and so little time and money we just never got around to this one. I am wondering if this place is on anyone's go to places? We had pad Thai with chicken .. which was passable. Big mistake to have ordered a Red Snapper dish.. it was small pieces of fish that had drowned in a gloopy sugar sauce. The salad was crispy and fresh. The coconut shrimps were on the edge of burnt but tasty. The wall treatments were interesting color and lighting set the color off.. very nice. The floor was cement. Is that supposed to help us make believe we are in Thailand? It made me regret restoring all those wood floors in the house.. should have taken out and put a nice skim coat of cement. The service was not particularly friendly but kind of manic. The two ladies scurried about doing what had to be done .

Business was good so obviously people frequent this place.
I know it is not fair to judge any restaurant based on one meal but I am wondering what should make me wanna try this one again

Thanks for the review Veets. I don't think I've even noticed that place before. I wonder if the spot that took over Lemongrass Grill turned out to be good or bad... I don't think we really have 'excellent' Thai in PS, do we?

I'm addicted to thai food so I have lots to say! After Lemongrass closed, which was my favorite in the neighborhood after trying most at last once, we settled on Beet for delivery. The food wasn't amazing but was the best thai option we found for the dishes we like. My favorite thing to order from there was the green curry. At worst it was a little bland but still worth eating and on good days it was really tasty. The service was always fast and our orders were always correct. Nothing amazing but we could get a quick, reliable meal. Spice, which replaced Lemongrass is kind blah in my opinion. We've tried it 3 times and the food was bland enough that we have never eaten much of any dish we ordered.

Currently I am totally in love with Sai Thai, the newish place on 5th Ave and 9th, next to the record store. We get delivery often and go eat there because the space is nice. The fella's and my favorite dishes there are the red curry, panang curry, curry puffs (I could eat those all day, yum!), and the sauteed basil dish. We've had other things that were good but nothing has ousted these as our go to choices.

It seems like everybody has a different idea of what good Thai food is and for me Sai Thai is most like the things I loved when actually in Thailand.

I do like Sai Thai and order in from the place and have eaten there a number of times. I avoid what they mark as spicy on the menu, not because i don't like spicy food but the heavy had they use disguises the other flavors in the dish.

I live around the corner from Beet and eat there occasionally. I am not a Thai food lover butI have one or two non spicy dishes that I like and order every place I go. I think in general the food at Beet is adequate, but never very good. The place is so noisy because of all the hard surfaces and the acoustics are terrible, so I never feel that I can eat and linger over dinner and talk to the people in my party. The service ranges from cold to downright rude.

I much prefer Sai Thai on 5th Av. which I feel offers better food, a nicer and quieter dining experience and a helpful and gracious staff.

      Reader.. I totally agree.
We have actually been in Sai Thai on a slow nite and the music was jacked up and husband kindly asked if they could lower it.... and they did. I know many people aren't bothered and rather enjoy loud music in a restaurant but I still love to eat with friends and actually be able to have a conversation so it bothers me.

The music/noise level is one reason I have never eaten at Song. I made plans to meet friends there for dinner, we we were in the bar area for a few minutes, all looked at each other and walked out.

We had that same experience at Song but we got as far as opening the door and the onslaught of sound was so overwhelming we never made in in to the place.
