I went there on a Sunday morning a few months ago. Now, I've been to places that make your coffee & put the milk & sugar in or have you serve and add milk & sugar on your own. I've even had them serve the coffee and I add milk & sugar. (ie. Starbucks which I hate). But I've never had to serve myself coffee and had the person working there add the milk & sugar. That's strange. Doesn't anyone agree, or am I just touchy?
I also think it's kind of dirty in there. -
you're touchyVV4@†3!53?

Fair enough -
Nah, I think it's a little odd too. I didn't know they served coffee or anything else there -- thought it was just an arts/performance space. What is it, just a little coffeeshop type thing in there or what?

They have coffee and a breakfast menu, but mainly it is an art space. They show independent and foreign films as well as other types of art installations. -
I was there once, a few years ago. My professor put on a (very strange) performance, so I went to check it out. It seems to be a very nice building, with lots of potential, but it was so messy. They weren't taking advantange of the space at all. The performance took place in this tiny room with about 12 seats. That was a number of years ago, though, so I was wondering if they have fixed it up yet.... from your post, I will assume they have not. That's such a shame.

you know it was Public Bath # 7 when it was built in 1910, right?

^ That's what's so cool about it!

http://brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=989&highlight=rooklyn+lyceum (sigh) previous thread on the subject, with defensive remarks from the owner I've been to a couple of things there, and each time wonder how they can get It so WRONG with such a great building. -
Yes, that is strange and I’m not surprised. The Brooklyn Lyceum needs a revamp in many areas. Have you seen The Brooklyn Lyceum’s website? The last few times I checked it, The Brooklyn Lyceum’s online calendar was so hard navigate that I gave up decrypting it and went to BAM, Barbes, and Galapagos Art Space – all venues that clearly announce and sufficiently describe their events information on their websites and in other media. I’d rather travel extra miles to another neighborhood for entertainment -- performance art, music, films, etc. -- at a venue that plainly states its events in an easily accessible format rather than waste time trying to determine what the heck is happening at the incoherent venue around the corner and guess whether or not it’s worth my $10.00. The Brooklyn Lyceum has SO MUCH potential. I can imagine myself becoming a huge fan. But they must work harder to obtain my sought-after attendance. Once they get their act together and deliver top-notch entertainment in an inviting and comfortable space, I’ll proudly pay an up to $10 cover to support their cause. I want to see this place succeed.I blame such comments on beer.

Absolutely. From the link to that other thread, it seems that Mr. Richmond doesn't seem to understand that we already think the Lyceum has a great concept, and awesome building, but that we just feel that it isn't living up to its potential. -

It's unfortunate that he doesn't want to clean the place up. I guess he's just happy with the amount of people that go there and doesn't want the business to grow. -
6 years later, building to be sold at auction:

It seems the owner is fighting the court proceedings:

Seems to be a dispute between the sites owner, and an architect he hired:

Based on my gut, I think it will be foreclosed on.

Um, no reputable lender is going to issue you a bond. Superman isn't coming. You are accusing the judge of disregarding prior case law, and seems as if you lack a plan.
tick, tick, tick.
