What a great place, and do yourself a favor. Have the Sauerbraten. Best thing I have eaten in a while. My wife loved the mussels as well.

I've never stayed but they have movie nights too (I think Sundays). A nice place when you have hearty warm food cravings.

I recommend and schnitzel with warm cabbage side and a German lager. Ask for mustard!

How is Der Kommissar? (The resto not the song doi!)

Is it the same category of restaurant? How do the meals / beer stack up.

Personally I find the food to be great, in that it meets what I expect. I'm usually going because I have a particular hankering for carbo-goodness. The beers are good yes, but they are not as adventurous as they could be, (i.e. more German/Austrian/SwissGerman beers).

I used to like Steinhoff but the food was always so-so.

Der Komissar has a very limited selection of food, basically sausages and sides but their beer selection if first rate. The owners are super sweet as well.

My only complaint is the music can be very loud, especially if you are sitting right in front of the speakers which sit in the middle of the bar. I am all for music at the bar, but the levels they play it sometimes makes conversation close to imposible.

Other than that it is a welcome addition to the hood IMHO.

Someone touting a place followed by the inevitable it's-not-so-great post? Done and done!

Hey, how about Five Guys? Best burgers in the city, no?
