My lovely little get around clunker seems to have vanished sometime between Thursday night and Monday afternoon. The car was parked legally mid block on the Tuesday side. 311, The Brooklyn Navy Yard, the 78th and the NYC.goc have no record of the car being towed and there were no parkign tickets associated with it. I filed a stolen car report last night and the policemen who responded told me the car was most likely towed and is bouncing around the system. Hoping that is what happened but the car could have easily been stolen. Anyone heard of any car thefts in the hood lately?

Oh, my GOD! People! Read threads! I feel like freakin' 311 today.....sheesh. Dude, your car was TOWED."...you can choose the rain....but I choose the sun..." - N. Costa

Didn't Big Guy just lose a car ? Did he ever find out whether it was towed or stolen?

What's going on with all the towing/missing cars around here??Babies aren't meat! They're not even people!

they've been doing some serious tree-pruning in this part of the north slope for the last week. it's a once every 7 year thing, from what i understand. i've noticed signs going up each day on different streets saying that they will be pruning the trees and towing any and all cars parked there on the day they are doing the work. they seem to post the sign the day before the pruning work is done. maybe that has something to do with it?

I don't know about that. I parked in a spot that was zoned for constrution (some dummy apparently ripped down the sign on the pole I checked first) and all they did was move my car. They didn't tow it to the yard, just moved it around the block.Babies aren't meat! They're not even people! -
Yeah, a lot of times if they move the car for tree pruning or street work, they don't bring it to the tow yard, they just move it somewhere else. Not quite sure how to figure out where that 'somewhere else" is. and, yeah, did potter's boyfriend ever find his car?

I noticed the tree pruning as well and I spoke with a neighbor who lives in a building across from where the car was parked but it wasn't happening on the block. No sign of construction and I checked nearby streets to see if it had been moved. No dice. Thanks for the links to the other threads. I followed all the procedures that other people explained, except going to the tow yard in person. I'll swing by there tonight and see what I can find. -
ah, that's good. i thought towing seemed a little overzealous in the tree pruning case, as they really don't seem to give very much leeway on the time between putting up the signage and the actual work.

You totaly nailed it. The tree pruning crew, in addition to overpruning way too many healthy trees, sometimes gives less than 24 hours notice before doing work. Same with "Damages" when they filmed on 3rd street last year. The frustration is relocating vehicles that were parked legally. I'd rather that it was towed and I'd pay the fees instead of not knowing if it was "moved" or stolen. -
Well not to be a pessismist, but we had a 1986 Honda stolen on New Year's Eve, two years ago. Filed police report and didnot hear a thing until 6 months later when we got a notice from the Environmental Protection Board that we had abandoned the car on some street in Williamsburgh. When we called them, they told us the car had been wrecked, burned and they had disposed of it and we had weeks and weeks of tickets. It all eventually straightened out, had to go to court to have tickets dismissed. Never saw the car again.

Wrong. The car was STOLEN. Thanks for the internet tough guy response...sheesh. The Navy Yard was an experience. 2 hours, lots of waiting, some nice traffic officers and some were not so helpful. I actually gained access to the "Vulture's Nest" and saw the handwritten ledger that the parking services people keep for every car towed into the yard. Alas my car wasn't on their list. I guess I'll keep checking the website for tickets accrued on my plate over the next couple of months and maybe I'll find the shell of the car on some random street. -
Sorry Dave sounds fucked up. Excuse the reaction above, not called for.(\__/)

My car was recovered! In Rockaway by the NYPD task force out of the 100/101 precinct. They pulled over 2 guys driving it around earlier this week. Other than punching out the ignition...no damage. I think they may have even put some gas in it. Major love to the NYPD on this one. I can't believe the car wasn't stripped after being gone for more than a week. A few people PMd me with similar stories and some are still looking for their cars...hope all end this well.

Great news!! I had a 2 yr old Audi A4 stolen several years ago... never saw or heard of it again. Glad you had better luck.

YAY! That's great! Now sell it. I don't think I could drive around in a car that some dirty scumbags stole and did God knows what in.Babies aren't meat! They're not even people!
