Does anyone know if there’s a good source for Chinese ingredients in the neighborhood? I'm trying to avoid a trek into Chinatown tomorrow. Specifically I need Sichuan spicy bean paste and fermented black beans.

@rockingood, a couple options:
1. Go to the Asian markets immediately south of you in Sunset Park. Hong Kong Supermarket comes to mind. Reviews are on Citysearch and Yelp.
2. Fei Long in Dyker Heights.
3. If you can wait until 2013, Whole Foods is coming to Brooklyn.
4. Get takeout from one of those new Sichuan restaurants in Park Slope. Remove from takeout container; pass off as your own.
4. If all else fails: ask @armchair_warrior. -
I do not know where you live, but if you are closer to Flatbush, Naturaland above the Q train has some interesting ingrediants near their fish counter.

I believe the Korean owned deli on 7th Ave by Berkeley has the spicy bean paste. Maybe black beans too.

I was going to make a joke about lead... but I decided to make this post instead.
