At the Fifth Ave street fair a couple of weeks ago, I bought a lovely pair of frames at a booth outside of the Fifth Eye Optix store on Fifth & Degraw. I paid in cash, got a receipt and left the frames & my prescription in the store so they could send them out for me. The woman said they would call in a couple of days when they were ready for pick up. I've called multiple times and no one answers. I've even stopped by a couple of times but its always closed. HELP! If you have any info, I'd be greatly appreciative. Have I been duped?

Did you call just today? Or yesterday too... It's Shavuot, so if they're of the Hebrew persuasion, they may be closed. If you called yesterday or before today, you may want to go visit.

you mean the jewish persuasion?what would you tell me, if i could hear you speaking?--t.r.

Unfortunately, I called several times last week and this week. I stopped by last Friday. Thanks though..... I'm bummed.

Sounds like a good candidate for one of those local news shows where they hunt down the owner and get your money back. Surely others are having troubles.

My husband mysteriously received a call from them on Sat and...I rode my bike over to pick up my gorgeous new glasses! I guess its possible it was a misunderstanding, but it still seems a little fishy. If you want a really cute pair of affordable frames, my advice would be to take them with you. Thanks y'all!

You must be relieved. Glad you got your glasses, but did they offer any sort of explanation? Maybe this should be a warning to others.

Not really, just sort of blamed it on me. Although she did say something about her her battery being dead for a couple of days. Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm suspicious of any business that A) doesn't have voice mail and B) has only a cell phone number. Also when she called us, she had no idea who we were..only said she saw a missed call from us...which leads me to believe she saw all of my missed calls (4-5 a day). Strange.

I had a similar experience there recently. I live in VA but my sister lives in Brooklyn. On a visit in May, I ended up buying a pair of glasses there. I paid on my debit card and, when I asked for a receipt, she said it would come with the glasses. Shady. For some reason I accepted this and left without one. Luckily she did call my sister a couple of weeks later and my sister picked them up. But when I got the package, no receipt. Now I'm nervous about whether she got all the stuff on them - anti-reflective and anti-scratch coatings. I have been trying to call all day but no answer and no machine (very shady). I may have to send my poor sister by there to scare up a receipt. I hope she doesn't "forget" who she is.
