Last night, around 4am, I heard two car alarms go off and then felt heat on my back. A car was completely on fire on 14th street between 6th and 7th avenues. Within minutes a fire truck came and put it out and then left. Then the car caught fire again and a fire truck came back and put it out. This afternoon I saw another car completely burnt out just down the block. My neighbors told me that five fires were set last night between 6th and 7th on 14th street. Does anyone have any information?

I posted months ago about a car on 14th and PPW that looked like it had been set on fire... wonder if this is related?  Park Slope seems to get the worst of the car crimes.

Just to make sure everyone is fully informed, this has been going on for a while. Here is the most recent thread about the fires in PH with similar MOs (trash next to the car is lit and then the cars catch on fire).

It is really disappointing that detectives have not been asking folks if they saw or heard anything (at least, from what I can tell, this has not happened on my block). I left for work about 7AM and was hoping that detectives might be asking residents about the fires. I was home all of last night and spoke to some neighbors and it appears that no one is coming around asking questions. On 14th street between 6th and 7th is a Verizon building and a preschool, so I am wondering if any security cameras may have caught the person or persons involved with the arson on film.

you really expect the cops to do anything? i hope the poor car owners had full coverage, and i sure hope that someone sees these bastards in the act and is able to exact some revenge before the cops come to protect the criminals rights

Story made it into Brooklyn Paper, whose article got an entry on Gothamist.
