This cutie was found in a park near my house tied to a fence for hours with no food or water, abandoned.  He was nervous and barking for his life when we found him. We brought him some milk bone treats and water.  He ate, then drank the entire bottle of water. Turned out to be a big sweetheart!  He is available for adoption now.  Animal ID A911220 at the Brooklyn Animal Shelter.

He is trained and actually listens. Looking back at the pics we took, he really is a puppy, which we couldn't tell at the time. A beautiful pitbull pup that was abandoned by an idiot. I hate when I see animals mistreated by humans who don't care. How can someone tie a dog up to a fence (on a VERY short leash) and just walk away?  It's sick. This breed of dog is misunderstood and popular for it's image. They are strong, powerful dogs who need someone who is comfortable training and has patience, but they are incredibly loyal and loving.

As he was dropped off at the shelter (thanks to the help of the amazing Laurie from Brooklyn Foster Network), two thugs offered to meet us around the corner and pay cash for him. They were open about their plan to breed him for money. I shouldn't be surprised that people can be that uncaring, it's one of the reasons we didn't want to leave this pit pup alone because a dog like that is valuable to certain people for certain awful purposes.

I am hopeful he will find a loving home. While he was dropped off at the shelter I spent a few hours volunteering for the Brooklyn Foster Animal Network and I am happy to see in person that there are people who care about animals and who want to adopt rescues. If you know someone looking to adopt Ben (that's what we named him) or any other dog or cat, send them a link to the Brooklyn Shelter!

Thanks Owler for helping this guy out. He looks like such a sweet guy. I'm sure that rescue group will pull him.

Why on earth would someone from a foster network turn this puppy into the kill shelter. Surely she must know how few ever see the light of day again, once they get there. No matter how young or how cute, fact is that most dogs do not make it out. Also, the dog will be put under a stray hold before going up for adoption. The only way this dog would be on the adoption floor now is if it was not listed as a stray. If anyone on this site wants to know the truth about how much time animals have at the NYC shelters, go to Facebook and check out Urgent Part 2 for dogs and Pets on Death Row for cats. Yes, with the help of rescue groups, some do make it out. Even then , a rescue can only pull if there is a foster /adopter in place. There are never enough foster homes, therefore there are never enough animals saved. The shelters lie and tell people what they want to hear. Every single night there are at least 10 to 15 dogs and 20 to 30 cats on the list to be killed the next morning, and they start very early. Adoptions are not until 12 pm but all the killing starts at 8 am. Please, you do not have to take my word for it. Go take a look at the sites. Read the threads and see how they have even killed animals while people were on the way to pull them.

      yup.
This is a problem stemming from too many dogs for not enough homes.

...which (of course) stems from people not neutering their dogs.

Great job! AC&C kills dozens of adoptable pit bulls every day, that puppy has a 3 day hold and will be euthanized if it isn't adopted or pulled.

Whynot, the people who buy animals from pet stores and backyard breeders also contribute to the problem. And too people are ignorant about pit bulls and believe they are all killing machines.

And in response we did attempt to bring him to a no kill shelter. The no kill shelter would not take him because he was a pitbull found on the street.

You tell me, I couldn't believe it either, I would have taken him in but I don't have anywhere to keep him and I also own three cats. He's a beautiful dog, who just needs someone to take him. Thank you to anyone who can help this abandoned puppy out.

Ben is on the list to be killed in the morning Thursday 29-sept. If you can help him please go to Facebook and like the urgent part 2 page. He needs someone to foster him . A rescue can pull him tonight if there is a foster in place.

That really sucks but is what happens to most dogs (especially pit bulls) that go to AC&C. Poor Ben never had a chance, he probably got the "deadly" kennel cough that can't be treated except by a round of incredibly inexpensive antibiotics. Thanks for looking out for him, Brit Princess. If I didn't have 10+ cats and a pit of my own I would foster him but I have too many animals and very little money. RIP, Ben. Might have been better off with those "thugs".

I know what you mean caseopele. At least with the " thugs" ,Ben would be alive beyond tomorrow morning. I still hold out hope that someone will step up for him. I won't give up on him. Owler, where are you?

Brit, I know you know the deal. Helping animals sure is easy until they actually have to do something that isn't convenient. I had to stop looking at the euth lists because they were killing me inside plus I still have 3 out of 5 cats I pulled last December. Everyone is dying for people to pull but don't really care what happens after. I wish Ben had been given a chance to learn that not everyone is heartless.

It's sad to see that he's been put to sleep.

On our end of things we put out the word to as many people as we can and we also contacted several no kill foster agencies in the area that had no room and could not take him.

I'm interested in hearing any suggestions as to what else could have been done to save him.

I don't think turning him into the fight dog people would have been good for him. He deserved a caring home with a family not to be fought until he was killed or to help breed more pitbulls to be put to sleep.

      Rest In Peace.

Not to bring up a sad topic again, but,, Brit, how do you find out what animals are and are not on the list?

I think that info is provide on their website.

Of course, you can also prevent pets from ending up in the shelter by having your dog spayed/neutered.

The various rescue organizations take the pets they believe have the best chance of being adopted, and always have pets available.

It's always worth trying the ASPCA with a stray animal, especially a young one.

@LTS . If you go on the Urgent Part 2 Facebook page under photos , you will see all the dogs in the 3 city shelters. One folder tells you which will be killed the next morning. There is a Safe folder with all the dogs that made it out and a Gone but not Forgotten folder as well. If you or anyone you know wants to foster or adopt , please post that on the page of the dog you are interested in. It is best to do this before they end up on the kill list, when they are just on the boro lists. Pets on Death Row is the site for cats.
