Trying to trap it but no success so far. Does anybody recognize this cat? Is anybody missing a big orange cat?

OC, please post the image of the lost cat on craigslist, petfinder, Fido (they help cats too i believe) and let the local Animal Control know (people call in to look for their lost pets there.) Even if you haven't caught the cat yet, there might be owners out there looking for tips on their lost cat's whereabouts. If you can, please post a flier at the local subway stations, with the storm coming tomorrow I'd hate to see an injured cat lost in the streets.

Thank you very much for the advice. I caught the cattonight and will bring him to the vet tomorrow. It is very calm right now, with a blanket over the cage and in the warm basement. Makes me think the cat is not feral.
-
Glad you caught him! Keep us updated on what the vet says.

Don't recognize the cat but he's a cutie.

I think its wonderful you're doing this. I spent time searching for a lost cat ( Dusty ) two years ago who was never returned but this forum was a great resource and support. Maybe if someone like you had been part of my story I would have had the happy ending that hopefully this cats grateful owners will have, especially at this time of year.Good job!

that cat is the one who lives in 265 11 stret bottom floor...It is basically a ferral cat tho as its outside more than inside and runs up and down the block picking fights with the other neighbors cats
-
Get him fixed before you give him back and maybe he wont fight so much. an animal rescuer can do it for cheap on the vans.
-
There is a difference from FERAL and Abandoned animals. I hope you place this cat in a good home or foster it --if you can't find it's owners. Sadly, there are many abandoned cats in our area, but they were once someone's pets. They deserve a chance to have a forever home.

I doubt that cat is feral. Just because it likes to be outside and picks fights with other cats just makes it a cat. I let my cats out, but not overnight. But if I let them out the male cat would be out all the time messing with other cats. It doesn't mean it's not feral, but I don't think a feral cat would sit for a photo and be mellow indoors.
-
well this cat goes in the house but spends alot of time outdoors.. most nights and sometimes i catch it around in the afternoon. Its not real friendly to me but i also have a couple of dogsin addition to my 2 cats. I know that one of the other neighbors has had issues with this cat beating up her cats that are much mellower...and if me and my dogs arent sitting in the yard this cat will howl outside my door every once in a while trying to get to my cats

I like cats as much as the next guy, but I'd tolerate about 5 minutes of that before applying a bucket of water to the situation.
BTW Good idea on getting this guy fixed up if he isn't, but that may be an additional expense that the OP is understandably unwilling to take on.

The cat is fixed now and being observed indoors for a while. He is very scared, which makes him appear more feral than he might be.
I doubt he is the cat from 265 11 St. He was caught in the gardens between 3rd Ave & 4th Ave on the south side of the Street. 265 is a block up between 4th & 5th Ave and on the Noth side of the street. It would be hard for the cat to cross 4th Ave.

You ask if someone knows the owners of a cat. I tell you who it is and you then decide it cannot be because its across an avenue. Ive not seen the red cat up here in the last couple of days so ive sent them an email because you refuse to check out the lead, Ive copied this thread and will pass that info on to the neighbors so if indeed you are intending to keep this animal if in fact they are the rightful owner, they can persue whatever legal options they have.
-
The "owners" of this cat obviously don't care about him if they let him roam the neighborhood unneutered. Considering how neglectful they've been about his well-being I doubt they have many legal options or if they'll even care he's gone.
Orange Cat, thank you for taking this kitty in and caring for him. PM me if you need any advice on finding him a home.
Go do something useful. -
What an ugly thing to say Bcodsnpkslope. This kind person took it upon herself to help a cat in need. A cat that has not been neutered and was found with a hurt paw. She has personally taken him to the vet (and paid for it herself I may add!) and now has him indoors for observation. It this cat does indeed have an owner then they pretty much suck. He has been neglected. It's obvious that they really don't give a sh*t about him. Kudos to you Orange Cat for helping this cat that really needed to be helped. I wish other people on this board could be as kind.

You can put up a few flyers with basic info (color, sex, location and date found) - no pics of the cat though as that is how you weed out the crazies and set up a dummy hotmail account specific to this - give it a week - if no one comes forward with a description and legit pic of the cat then you have done your legal duty and are free to find him a good home.
Check with local rescue groups to find out when their adoption events are and if you, as a private rescuer, can bring him to one if he is friendly enough. If hes had a tough time on the street he may always be timid with new people but timid does not mean feral. A true feral cat will freak out indoors and not let anyone approach him with either going fight or flight on them. If you think he is too shy just yet to go to an adoption event ask them about socialization options, foster options etc and maybe they can give you some tips.
You have done a great thing and have likely saved this guys life, you are in the final stretch now and just need to find him his permanent home - this can take time but dont give up!
