I just wanted to post a shout out to Grab! (No I don't work there, don't know the owners on any personal basis, just like the place). They're pretty much across the street from me, so I frequent them for my cheese and bread needs. I've had sooo many good cheeses, wow. Usually I just ask them for a couple recommendations, I try it, then buy it. Great selection!

Anyway, everyone should check them out. They have some pretty good looking (cured?) meats too, though I don't eat those. And growler tap beer. Nice place.

7th ave just about at 14th st I believe. Same side of the street as Bar 4.

      Check 'em out.

They rock! Wine next door at Slope Cellars (when I'm not visiting my friend at Shawn's and I need some South Slope wine fast) and you've got the makings of a good meal.

grab is the shit and slope cellars is the only winestore I go to in park slope. I walk all the way from 7th st and 5th ave, past 2 other winestores, to go to slope cellars.

How do you guys like the growlers? I got one one day and drank the beer within a couple of hours; the beer seemed flat and watery. Maybe I just got the end of the keg?

I did like the rest of my purchases. I'll be going back (need to refill my olive oil!), I'm just not sure if I'm going for beer or not.

"A growler is a U.S. half gallon (1890 ml/66.6 imp fl oz) glass jug used to transport draft beer in the United States."

      Thanks, wikipedia!

grab rocks. The owners are so nice and everything is so good. I like supporting local when they are trying so hard. I just wish I had money to spend on cheese and wine every night.

It will be superfluous of me to pile on the praise. Suffice to say that I only consider going to Grab when I need cheese, munchies, and bacon (especially when I need thickly cut bacon).

One thing no one has mentioned is their sandwiches. They use their own cheese, meats, and various other things (sometimes artichoke with mayonnaise, pickled peppers, etc.) on a fresh baguette. These sandwiches are really really good. But getting them is like a crap shoot because I am not sure when they make them. They can be found in the fridge section.

      holy crap, they make sandwiches!?????

Love grab, love slope cellars. love the growlers, although I find the fizz in the beers a smidge uneven. I swear we had one last week where the carbonation (sp?) built up. Beer tasted flat when we first opened it, even though it looked bubbly, then 15 minutes later, it was fine.

Oh cool! going to have to try that! I remember years ago when Park Slope Ale House first opened and called themselves park Slope Brewing Company-you were able to go there and get a half gallon glass jug of beer to bring home.

The growlers are fantastic. I've never had a problem with the beer and we usually refill twice a week... always a great selection and occasional beer tastings as well. Love love love Grab.

I like their growler selection and have never been disappointed (unlike the Houston Whole Foods' beer which one time was flat and another time was so overly carbonated that I felt my stomach would explode). Their cheeses are spot on and the cured meats are top shelf. I go their at least once a week. My one gripe with Grab is that sometimes they can be pitifully slow even when I'm the sole customer in the store.

I did not know they had sandwiches! I guess I know what I'm doing for dinner tonight if they have any left when I get home!

And Growlers are great. You buy the growler, fill it with beer, take it home, drink it, keep it until you want to refill it. It is less expensive to refill, since you already paid for the glass bottle, plus, it's environmentally friendly since you don't create any wasted bottles/cans. Just one more reason to drink!

Since I work in Soho, I tend to do most of my cheese shopping there. How does Grab compare to Joe's Diary or Di Palo's?

Its different than DiPalos- its more gourmet cheese. You'll find some aged parm but not provolone and stuff like that. More bries/goat cheeses etc.

If you buy your wine at the wine place next door and give GRAB the

reciept of what you bought, she will suggest cheeeses to compliment

the wine. It works out soooo well!!!

I adore the Ole Timey Jug feeling of the Growler. But seriously, to everyone, if you love a shop or bar, give a shout out on Yelp, or Yahoo. The owners will appreciate it;-)

Also they have a buy 12 growlers- get the 13th free program. You can't say that about Bierkraft.

That minor point aside - this place sounds like a South Slope version of Bierkraft. If I am ever in the area, I'll have to check this place out.

Thanks. I never went inside because it did appear "gourmet". I prefer simpler foods, so I'll stick with Joe's Diary. Love that place. Smells just like Italy.

They have something more like 6 on tap at any given time. I just got filled up with a nice amber ale from SixPoint Brewery. I've had some _incredible_ dark beers from Grab... very chocolatey and coffee-y. Mmmmm....

      Damn you, unpasteurized cheese connoisseurs!

Every time I pass by Grab, I go in, smell in the cheese aroma, then buy a bread, and go back to my pasteurized world. 4.5 more months to go!

I go there for cheese suggestions and growlers... but i usually end up buying only a little cheese due to the price

i've started cheeping out and just buying similar cheeses at fairway, however.

wow, Chipster. i am surprised to hear that. i haven't noticed any real change in their demeanor, other than the fact that they seem to be more and more busy in the store (which i guess is a good thing in this economy, eh?). what happened?

Chipster - I'm surprised you say that. I've found everyone to be the same as always: really pleasant and helpful. There's always someone working who knows the beers on tap and someone to help with picking out a good cheese. I really like the people at Grab.

maybe i caught them on a bad day...maybe all cheese snobs (the reason i like 'em) also becomes the reason i don't. glad to hear your experiences are positive though. i had really found that place charming.

I go there probably weekly and haven't had any bad experiences, though I'm sure everyone has their off day so hopefully, Chipster, that was all it was and not a downward trend.

I'm pretty sure I'd be 5lbs lighter but 50% less happy in the taste buds if I stopped going to Grab

they were quite busy as well...

hopefully you were just there on an off day. i've never had a bad experience there...

One experience? more than one experience? If it's one, it's ridiculous to even comment about it as everyone has a bad day. More than one warrants a comment.
