Since there are what, 18 sushi places in the Slope, I never cared which I went to because they're all pretty much the same. Last week, I walked by Shinju on 5th or 6th street and 7th avenue and saw a sign for 50% off all sushi, sushimi and most rolls.

I've already been back twice. It's an amazing deal and their sushi is very good quality and it's a good atmosphere in there. I'm posting here because I have no idea why no one is in there each time I've gone. Maybe people just don't know about it, so hopefully more people will give them a try and they'll keep the 50% off longer.

Is this only a lunch special? Or can we get it around dinner time?

"Discount sushi" is something probably best avoided in the long run.

      Mamacita, don't you ever learn?

It's all day - dinner included. It's $1 for sushi/sushimi and 2.50 for rolls. When it's fresh, high quality sushi, does it really matter if it's discount?

I smell a shill but what the heck. I'll take the bait.

Couldn't be more wrong. There are several tiers of sushi in the neighborhood with Blue Ribbon and Taro being at the top of the list followed by a bunch of passable sushi restaurants and a couple that don't deserve a 2nd visit.

Shinju falls squarely in the passable category. Nothing special about their sushi or rolls. The staff was friendly but the place was empty when I ate there a couple of months ago. Never a good sign. 50% off sushi reeks of desperation. Plywood by September 1st.

In case there's any confusion here, Shinju used to be Inaka. Furthermore:

      Tenko used to be Picasso

      Kappa used to be Sakura

Hakone used to be Sushi Ya which used to be Tamari

Kobma begat Delima which begat Nepon, but now the space is an Irish bar

Which just goes to show that sushi never dies easily.

Now if you really want discount sushi, hit up your nearest refurbished Duane Reade. At least the Immodium is right down the aisle ....
