Hoping this doesn't dissolve into a stream of bad puns... I bring my long haired cat to the vet at the beginning of every summer to have her check up, and be groomed. She has had serious digestive problems in the past from swallowing so much hair, and as a result, it is necessary to shave her down. I am looking for a local vet, who has a groomer come in and groom cats on the premises. It has to be done at a vets office, as the cat needs drugs to take the edge off. Does anybody else get their cat shaved, and have a recommendation? I know Animal kind does it, but I want to see what the other options are. I am in the South Slope / Windsor Terrace border.

Prospect Park Animal Clinic on PPW near 6th St definitely has a groomer that people seem to like. I take my dog there for the vets and am very happy so far. http://www.prospectparkanimalclinic.com/products_services.html

I actually called them before posting this, and they don't groom cats, despite what it says on their website. They referred me to a grooming company, but obviously the grooming company can't administer sedatives or give check-ups, so it's nt what I'm looking for. Thanks, though! -
I don't know any place that does this (was also going to suggest PPAC), but I have a Furminator being delivered to my house tomorrow. My mom swears that this comb is getting off SO much more hair than the regular brush/comb than she normally uses on her cat (aka Woolly Bully). Perhaps after the shaving you can try it as a preventative measure

I have been looking for a place to get my cat groomed as well, but I haven't had any luck so far. I have a fuzzball 9 month old kitten who is very resistant to grooming, but now that it's summer time, it's become apparent that I need to get her clipped. She earned a caution label on her chart for her feisty behavior the last time we took her to the vet, so I need either a cat whisperer or someone who is medically qualified to sedate her. But the little terror has a lot of fur, and I feel sorry for her when I see her sleeping in the bath tub to keep cool. Kiki's Pet Spa http://www.kikispetspa.com/spa.html got decent reviews on Yelp for cat grooming, but it's a little out of the way. I may try it if I can't find anything closer, though.

Cool. My cats are short-haired, and luckily they love to be brushed (all I have to do is take the brush out and make little "brushy brushy" motions and they come running). It should arrive this afternoon and I predict they will love it -
Flexi - even though your cats are short-haired...you'll be amazed how much hair comes off on itPeanuts

I agree with the others on the furminator. Long or short-haired, it does not matter. If your pet sheds a lot, the furminator is worth the high price. I've let lots of folks at off-leash try mine and everyone who tried it has bought it and raves about it for the dogs as well as cats. D_luxx, hopefully you can find a groomer in a vet office soon.

My feisty furball does not allow brushing or combing of any kind, so I still need to find a vet and groomer who can drug her up and shave her down. I wish I could just buy a new comb and be done with it! @ brooklyn sourpuss - My cat is 11 and I've done this several times, and I think a vets office is the way to go. You can get on a schedule where you get your check up, shots and grooming all in one trip.

my persian cat is groomed at animal kind. he has a regular medical issue that has to be checked on 4xs a year so i always make an appointment with the groomer for immediately before or after so it is all done at once. the groomer is a really nice lady and she usually finishes shaving him into a lion cut within 20 minutes. she has a seperate line but if you call the main desk they will transfer you to her also fyi i really wanted to use hope in the past but they don't do grooming (even if they tell you they do on the phone...)

oh and to add - he isn't shampooed or anything - just a cut and i think nail clipping and i think it comes to around $40.

I brought my cat to Animal Kind today, and she got her checkup, shots, and cut. I have to say, I thought they were pretty great. The vet suggested attempting to groom the cat without a sedative, then only sedating if necessary, and miraculously, the groomer was able to do it. So I saved a lot of money and it was less risky for my pet. Kitty is prancing around showing off her hilarious new look ( but she's still not speaking to me )

We need photos of the new look or it didn't happen
my cats are adoring their Furminator. I will have to take pics of how much hair that thing gets off of them -

the "no sedative" is not a miracle. Anne, the groomer is truly an animal whisperer! Happy to know you had a good experience. -
