Can anyone recommend someone? I'm in the north slope and need some pretty simple things done (install ceiling pendants, curtain rods, hang a heavy picture, etc) but would also want them to give me an estimate on having some built-ins installed.

      Anyone have someone they trust?

      Thanks.

he did various jobs around our place, completely trustworthy (we gave him keys and had him do the jobs while we were at work).

Frank has been doing all my bits and bobs for 7-8 years now. I 'inherited' him from my previous landlady who used him for everything before I bought my place.
Big job or small he does everything from drilling one hole in a brick wall, putting up a shelf and taking out my ACs to making a beautiful custom built wood fireplace to my specifications. He's also painted apartments for friends I recommended him to. A very down to earth guy.He sticks to his quote and sometimes it comes out cheaper if the materials turn out to be cheaper than he expected! ) I've trusted him alone in my apt several times.
( I am also in North Slope ). No we're not friends or related!! I just think he deserves the credit for many a job well done.

I used Frank for a while as well. Until one day when I scheduled with Frank and he did not show up. I called him and he re-scheduled for the following day. The following day he did not show up. He did not answer my calls either. He is not reliable and I will not use him again

I've used Matt before and he's fabulous. Reliable, trustworthy, and skilled. He can do everything from hanging pictures to building built ins, replacing doors, and other renovation work. He repaired our roof deck after a storm and it's never looked better and is much stronger. He's also great at installing media and entertainment systems. He has a background in construction, carpentry and electronics. Great guy and I recommend him 100%

I also recommend Matt Zelznick... but in the interest of full disclosure he's my husband. He's definitely trustworthy and his rates are very reasonable.

He can be reached by phone or email.

Whatever you do, do NOT hire a guy named Thom Brennan, he advertises regularly on Craigslist. He's unfocused, unprofessional, reckless and unreliable. Stay away.

On advice of Brooklynian readers, we called Matt Zelznick to fix a small electric wiring issue in our kitchen and we recommend him highly.

He was great, fixed the problem quickly and even followed up with us a few days later to reinstall the light fixture. His rate was very reasonable and he showed up when he said he would (amazing how rare that is)!

      His contact info is above.

      Hi everyone -

Thanks for all the recommendations here. I used Matt Zelznick and he was awesome. He did everything from hang curtain rods to build and install a huge built in bookcase unit. He did an beautiful job on everything (even fixed some less than steller repairs a previous handyman had done) and his rates were very reasonable. I couldn't recommend him more highly.

      Thanks again!
