Can anyone recommend a firm that can refinish my brownstone floors? I have loose planks that have to be fixed, and then I need some of my rooms sanded and refinished. All replies are appreciated, thanks!

We had very bad experiences with two different refinishers, and then we got a reference to these folks, who did a terrific job... extremely professional: Verrazano Flooring 217 25th St. Bay Ridge Brooklyn, NY 11232 http://www.verrazanoflooring.com (718) 369-9663

I've been using the same guy for nearly 15 years and love him.... Desmond Harmon: 917-642-2752http://www.reclaimedhome.com

also had good experience with verrazano flooring--the guys who were doing the actual work even made a little piece of parquet on their own because there was a missing piece in a corner that i hadn't seen

I am another fan of Verrazano Flooring, they straightened and restored our hardwood floors.

We just installed reclaimed heart pine floors in our brownstone. We worked with two different over the course of the project. The first was very good (he refinished the floors in an apartment for us) but a little unreliable. The second, Marcus Patterson was very, very reliable and an excellent craftsman. Marcus took great care with the installation, sanding and finishing of our floors. I wish he had done the whole project. Marcus' number is 347-579-5980.

Thanks for the replies, I have an appointment tomorrow with Desmond, and I will be calling Marcus and Verrazano as well.

I was wondering if anyone had updated suggestions or references for an affordable company who does wood floor sanding, refinishing and repair (and possible replacement of one or two areas).
Thanks

I am another fan of Verrazano. They are very professional and I have had bad experiences with other companies. One company sent in a man who I believe was just learning how to use the machine and the wrecked a beautiful floor. I am sure that there are other good companies out there but if you want a sure thing call Verrazano. The only negative for me was that they would not disconnect my radiator so I got a big wrench and did it myself. I am sure that if I hired a plumber it would have cost $200.
