Ahhh I was wondering why their gate was sitting half closed. It's just to cover the department of health violation sign! CLEVER! I can't tell from the link, but why specifically were they closed?
-
Nice scoop.

I was thinking that too, very clever! I had been walking by the half-open gate for three days wondering if they had gone out of business.Starting a list of users names who are actually the same person: west1440, DownwardPuppy, TruthandBeauty, Stretchy, RupaulRox, NarcolepticAbe, QuantumSilence, SoldierSantana, SouljaJuan, TrendPotter, THREEKxdz, HomeEida -
well their new inspection isn't showing up on the deparment of health's website, so I wonder what gross stuff they had going on: http://167.153.150.32/RI/web/detail.do?method=detail&restaurantId=41300327&inspectionDate=20080226

I did get food poisoning from them once. And it was definitely attributable to them.
-
This is a death sentence for them, no? Not sure how many of their patrons are on this board.

I found this site to be extremely nasty and anti-semitic. I'm sure this is run by a couple of people who think their attitude is pretty hip, but the nastiness really comes through more than a post-modern hipster stance. I won't be visiting again. -
I wonder if the bajillion other Kikus have the same cleanliness standards.

@BrooklynGigCenter You should stick to Only-The-Blog-Knows-Brooklyn like the other hundred-year-olds. Also see "The Cosby Show" and "Matlock" - you're sure never to be offended.

I think this was suppose to be an insult, but it's a bit hard to tell.Did Someone Say Walk? -
I haven't seen fked in park slope, but I agree with smashbrother's sentiment. When blogs are all "YAY! AREN"T WE GREAT?!" and filled with the same repeat cast of peppy characters, shopowners, cafes, etc...it gets a bit boring. (just like when you guys go on and on and on about your pets) Put on your "sustainable, eco-freindly, made by my best freind-sweater, and call it a day. This board, like all online forums gets mean; but that's what makes it real. Sometimes you feel like a nut; sometimes you don't!Ask a burning question, get a burning answer.

Hmm, nasty is the new black, eh?
-
no, nasty is what some people think behind closed doors; aka, the internet. we have nothing invested here, so we can't alienate our audience; or lose our advertisers. nothing that hasn't been noted before about internet anonymity. even bad spellers can contribute.Ask a burning question, get a burning answer.

I think it's funny that it's the department of health and mental hygiene. Maybe it isn't dirty, maybe they were just crazy.

I've been a semi-regular patron and yeah, I agree that this DOH thing is probably a death sentence for them
-
I have been to Kiku a few times, and never had a problem with them. That said, DOH violation is a big red flag for me, ans I will not go back. Don't want to take any risks when it comes to raw fish... Geido - here I come!

I posted awhile back about the amateur gourmet (blogger and book author) finding a live roach in his sushi from Kiku. I haven't been bacl since then. To any of them.

Funny- Kiku is Brownstoner's restaurant of the day!!!!!!!!

That's the Kiku on 5th Ave. that Brownstoner is featuring! As far as I know the two restaurants are not related at all, though I'm not sure who came first or how they both got the same name. -
I'be always found the Kiku on 5th Ave is some of the most fresh and flavorful sushi I've ever had. I accidentally ordered from the one on 7th once and it was totally different - the pieces were smaller and tasted way less fresh.
-
Looked like they were open as I was coming home last night. Exactly zero customers in attendance... (to be fair it was 5:45, not exactly peak dinner hour). Once of those cursed locations, I'm afraid. They briefly had a lock on South Slope Sushi, but then the place on 15th & 7th opened up, in a much sexier space. That's my current go-to for sit-down, while my take out comes from the little take-out Kiku next to the former Thai Tony.
