My wife and I are thinking about renting an apartment on the corner of 7th and Lincoln. It is on the third floor and has windows facing 7th and Lincoln. We are new to the area. Does anyone else live on 7th? How loud is the noise? What about the bus that runs up and down 7th? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

      Subject: 7th Avenue Noise

I lived on seventh avenue for several years, and here is what I know:

      1) You will hear the bus run all day, and all night, though over time it becomes background noise. Modern buses make a variety of noises, beeps and squeaks. If you are a light sleeper, and near a bus stop with the windows open, it will wake you up.

      2) On the weekends, there will occasionally be drunk and noisy people, from time to time. They usually are moving, however, and will fade in the distance.

      3) Ambulances run down seventh to Methodist.

      4) Constant light from street lights make shadows through curtains.

      5) Great views of the several parades that go down seventh each year.

I'm on 7th and 1st. Third floor. It's very noisy--ambulances, buses, delivery trucks, regular traffic. I'm used to it, not so bad with the windows closed.

Hey I live on 9th street.. wanna get noiser than that in the Slope?

You get accustomed to it and helps to have bedroom on the 8th street side of the house. To anyone moving to Nyc from anywhere that is not anothe rmajor city.. Urban life will be a majot adjustment. The trade off for the excitememnt of living on 7th Ave is the proximity to the action.

when i worked at ozzie's we would get complaints about noise from the upstairs residents occasionally, but i don't think it would reach to the 3rd floor, if that's the corner you're looking into.

in any case, it's a really good intersection, with ozzie's, olive vine, the new mexican place, the yarn store, the dog supply store (even if you don't have a dog, go in and play with their dogs and cat!), etc.

berkeley carroll school is right there, so you might have to deal with more than the average amount of high school student gossip noise. i was always shocked at how often those kids are allowed to just wander around the neighborhood during the school day! i grew up in a small town and we weren't even allowed to leave the building for lunch. but they're good kids.

it'll definitely be noisier than a side-street no matter what, but i guess it depends on your tolerance and your desire to keep windows open or closed.

The flocks of school kids and the rest of the circus on 7th Avenue is noisy. If your bedroom can be in a sound proof room that only faces Lincoln, you might be OK.
I blame such comments on beer.
