Mugging, with knife during the day--thieves caught by NYPD

      Hey folks,

      My neighbor just got mugged and I thought it worth sharing. This happened in broad daylight, around 11am. She was getting her keys out and a guy with a knife took her stuff and jumped in a van and sped off. Amazingly she managed to get the plates and car description. A delivery guy walking by had a phone and she immediately called the cops with the info, including which way they headed. The cops actually caught the guy(s) within about 20 minutes of her calling.

      I remember this happening in another building years ago and the cops said those kinds of robberies usually came in spurts.

      Remember to stay alert, and now is a great time to go make copies of everything in your wallet (easier to quickly call all the card companies) in case you loose it or it gets stolen.

      People may also want to consider how much they carry with them on a daily basis and if they really need all that for everyday trips to grab lunch or visit friends..etc.

      Especially when I go out late at night, all I carry is ONE credit card (or a bank visa card), cash, my ID and my keys. Real simple and if I did get my purse stolen I don't need to rack my brains on which cards I had in there. You can always keep a separate wallet with everything else for the rare occasions you know you'll need a SS card, insurance cards, multiple credit cards etc.

      That said, I'm glad they caught the bastards.

      I'm so sorry to hear this! It seems muggings are always near the park, it's just too convenient for the crooks to run into the park and disappear. What street was this at please?
