There is a family of raccoons (2 adults, 5 kits) living in an unoccupied house on my block, and visiting back yards and roofs (a couple of them actually fell through someone's skylight!) up and down the block and the block association is going nuts trying to figure out how to best get rid of them. The problem is complicated by the fact that we believe there are other raccoon families on neighboring blocks. Are realtors and landlords not entitled to discriminate based on species? Maybe it's time to bring back restrictive covenants (no four-legged wild creatures shall be permitted to reside on the premises...)

Or maybe we need to import some predators, such as wolves, wolverines, or mountain lions? Just think... that might also reduce the number of bicyclists in the nabe, so that drivers will be able to speed down their favorite potholed streets as fast as they like. It might even reduce the number of double strollers interfering with right-minded people just trying to get a beer at their favorite bar! Predators, that's the ticket!

For sure.. only here would a racoon get IN to the house and find a way to get stuck in the silverware drawer.
