So, is there ANYWHERE near the slope for a good bowl of Pho? And if not, where is the nearest option--is it in sunset park?
-
Gia Lam in Sunset Park and a few others. In Elmhurst, there's Pho Bac (not Pho Bang)
-
there use to be a place on Garfield and 5th, when i first arrived in PS back in 04 I think?
-
There's definitely no place there now, maybe the little market on that corner used to sell hot food? Or it could have been where the relatively new AOC restaurant.(\__/)

nicky's sandwiches off atlantic in brooklyn heights is pretty good.

someone should open up a great place like this in the former playa space which has now been sitting empty for quite a while. might turn that corner's luck around...
-
yes, someone definitely should. there is a huge lack of vietnamese food places in general in new york.
-
Pho Pasteur on Baxter Street in Chinatown. The place is a dump, but the food is delicious - get a spring roll, too!

Mekong used to be where AOC Bistro is now. Can't say I ever went there. -

Not sure if they serve Pho or just sandwiches, but Lotus just opened up across the street from there. I haven't been inside, but it seems to be more of a take-out spot, though they may have tables in the back. -
yes, i saw that place too and assumed it was just vietnamese sandwiches....maybe i'm wrong. a full fledged vietnamese restaurant would be a huge hit around here though, i think...

Ok, so there's actually no really good pho in all of new york. It's a shame, but there isn't really a large vietnamese population so you aren't going to find good pho anywhere around here. If you're near east hartford, ct though, the best pho within a hundred miles can be had at pho 501.

I second your opinion, Moug! O, the days of Pho 501. Not that I yearn to be back in East Hartford, but Pho 501....memories! Maybe we can convince them to move here.Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. -
You'd figure that one of the 4 banh mi places in the neighborhood would differentiate themselves by offering pho (and I'm not complaining about too much banh mi, I'd be happy if there was one on every block or so, right next to the pho place). For you East Hartford-ophiles, can't say I've heard of Pho 501, but it reminded me of a Vietnamese place called Truc on Wethersfield Ave in Hartford, I had my first vietnamese food there back in the 80s. (and not surprised you don't yearn for East Hartford, I suspect that no one has ever really yearned for East Hartford)
