I I drove past this place tonight at about 9;30. I am not saying anything people who hang out here don't know but my husband is a Jazz piano player and he suggested stopping there for a glass of wine. . Frankly, I know what he really wants is to check out who has the piano gig in there tonight. . he likes working locally cause it is so little hassle to not leave the hood. So, we pull over and the place is closed at 9;30 on a Sat. night. I remember reading that in Aug the place was closed for 2 weeks for vacation but unless there has been a death in family, no restaurant is closed at 9;30 on Sat. night unless they are permanently closed. What is the story with this?

i thought there was a sign saying that it's only open for private parties. but i might be thinking of someplace else...

Now I read that private party idea here a while back. But , if that is the case what kind of idea is that? A restaurant that plans to function as a "catering hall?" Well, if that is the idea... no one booked the joint this Sat. night.

yup, since they were closed for vacation they've been a private parties only place. i think they've only had one private party that i've noticed in the past month (meanwhile stone park closed for half the day today to host a wedding but still is able to function as a restaurant the rest of the time.) alto voce was always pretty empty regardless though.

What a waste of space.I blame such comments on beer.

Actually, I've noticed 3-4 private parties in the last month at least (I don't walk by there super often but i remember being sort of surprised at the amount of activity in the place considering their new endeavor.)whoa hey whoa hey whoa

I have noticed private parties there lately - they are usually during the day.Happily propagating the species since 2009

Who knows, perhaps the private party thing can work. Since these events are planned in advance there is no need for full time staff and paying them to be there regardless of if you have customers or not. Food is ordered to fill the real number of plates that will be served so much less waste.

I have noticed many private events in the space - sit down dinners for one large party or cocktail-like events. Who knows, maybe they are having some success in marketing the space this way. Yesterday walking by, I did notice the regular menu again posted (as well as one large group at a table) so I wonder what they are up to now...
