i was out of town for a few days so this may be old news, but it sure looked like the restaurant at 3rd & 7th is history.

Yep, it's apparently reforming as Giovanni's in South Slope. Less than excited for that news, as I thought Sette sucked, big time.
-
Very surprised by the abrupt closing, with no notice posted thanking customers for their patronage, etc.
I know Giovanni, the owner, has been mired in a much-longer-than-anticipated renovation of the space in Windsor Terrace. Maybe two rents plus construction costs was too much to juggle.
I'm sorry to see Sette go. It wasn't The Best Italian Food Ever but it was reliable, the service was great and Giovanni added a real note of warmth when he was there.
The new place is a schlep for me but I'm willing to try it out.

I really liked Sette. I'm very very sad to see it gone

My wife and I thought about having a small group party there on Sunday. The owner wanted double the standard charge for the brunch because we would be there twice the time, even though we would arrive at the last hour of the brunch, thus carry over into a period where he wouldn't have many customers. I could see paying a 20-40% premium, but double was a bit extreme and not willing to work with us doesn't bode well for the long term success of any place under that management.
Took our party to Okeanos and it was perfect.

How did you go there on sunday if it is closed?

Okeanos troll?

I liked Sette...it was a good, reasonably-priced, reliable place to meet friends for lunch....

Possibly meant to type "one Sunday"?
-
Indeed, I did mean one Sunday.

anyone know what's going in the old sette location? i walked by there today, and it looks as if they are very much in the process of renovating the interior. here's hoping for a nice little restaurant and/or bar.
