On my way home I saw this very sad sick looking cat who may belong to someone, if so the cat looks like he/she's been lost for a while and not looking too hot.

He/she was crying very sadly and seemed that he wanted to go inside somewhere, but he/she was mainly staying by the garbage cans in front of a building on the North side of 14th st. between 7th and 8th Ave.

He/she was white with some black spot on the head and I believe a larger black spot on the back, He/she seemed quite sad and scared and acted like they were used to humans which makes me feel the cat may be lost but as I tried to get close to pick the cat up and although he/she would let me get quite close but also would stay just without of reach.

If this is your cat I hope you can find the poor guy he seemed to be staying in the one spot near the garbage cans. I included a photo below.

Get ready to hate me but you just left the cat there? It's obviously friendly and in distress, it needs to be taken in. Can you go back there and find it? You'll need a carrier or a box or something and cat food or tuna. That cat was probably dumped, it's probably a house cat and it's probably in danger. Put on some gloves if you're worried about getting scratched and just grab it.

I cannot take the cat because I have way too many right now and can't take in any new ones until I get some adopted. But I can help with getting the cat vaccinated, spayed/neutered for around $25. And get you in touch with a couple rescue groups that may be able to help you find a home for the cat. I'm not a total negative nancy here.

I've been taking in strays since I was a kid and I have a policy that if the cat doesn't want to be caught or acts afraid of humans I don't force it because the cat may be feral.

Usually if a cat is domesticated I can get close enough to catch them.

This guy let me get close enough where he gave my finger tip a sniff but when I attempted to pet him or pick him up beyond that he would take off and I did not want him to get hurt trying to get away from me or run over or further lost and stressed out.

I just hope that if someone sees this and happens to know if the cat is a stray or lost.

Once again I saw him on the north side of 14th in the middle of the block between 7th and 8th Ave.

I'll also swing by and take another look to see if he's around tomorrow, chances are if he is there then maybe he lives nearby.

Some cats that have been outside for a while will be harder to catch, that doesn't mean they don't want to come inside. I guarantee that cat is just scared and will be fine if you catch it. I've been doing TNR and cat rescue for a few years, taking strays in since I was a kid too. Quite a few of them haven't been very easy to catch but it was worth it and they turned out to be very happy house cats.

I am a recipient of a cat guy's street rescue that involved some scratching and hissing. It took Sylvia 6 months to sit on my lap. She's snuggled up on her throne as I type. I hope you're able to rescue him/her and find them a fitting kingdom.

    6. From what I can see, the cat looks scared but not sickly. If you do some research on missing cat at your local pet stores or pet care facilities you might see a flyer put up. Some places will take-in strays for adoption or provide care. I've been there... and rescued many mainecoon cats. ASPCA 92nd St NYC is a no kill shelter. Thanks for being so good hearted.

ASPCA is a no-kill, but they only take in healthy animals. No diseases, at least. I took a kitty there and she turned out feline luek positive, so they booted my ass right out the door with her. Got her adopted on my own, but still- that sucked.

This cat hangs out in front of my building all the time (14th btw 7th/8th). Someone who lives in my building puts food out for it, which is I assume why. It's been hanging out for as long as I remember. I know there's a ton of feral cats that live in the backyard that is overgrown and residents have no access too, so I always kind of figured it somehow got out of the yard and couldn't get back. I would be happy to try to help this cat if everyone seems to think it needs help, as I see it every night in front of my building! However, even though I wish I could, I can't take it into my apartment. I love animals and all, but I grew up with dogs and have never owned a cat and wouldn't have the first clue what to do with it...I have no cat supplies and to be honest right now I really don't have any spare money to buy any, not to mention not knowing about diseases, ect. People on here seem to have a lot of experience with this sort of thing....so if I was able to somehow figure out how to catch the cat where exactly is a place I could take it to? I wouldn't have the first clue as I'm new to the area and don't have a pet. If someone could give me advice of exactly how, I'd love to try to help this cat!

Kristin, I'm sure some of us can help you with cat supplies. I have a bunch of extra litter boxes and maybe people will donate some money for litter and food. I cannot take the cat, I have yet another dumped cat in my bathroom as of tonight. The city shelter is Animal Care & Control, they are horrible and actively prevent animals from being rescued. The ASPCA is only interested in animals that are easily adoptable, they won't help this cat. Rescue groups are your best bet but most of them are beyond full.

If you are willing to foster the cat, I can work on getting the cat neutered, vaccinated, and tested for FIV/FeLV. All for a lot less than a regular vet would charge. We can also give you some revolution to take care of fleas. There are no diseases the cat can give you other than rabies and the odds of this cat being infected is astronomical. If you're interested, don't pm me since I rarely get notifications from this site anymore. Email me at caseopele(at)gmail.com.

Kristen101, I can donate starter supplies. Just let me know. Thanks so much for trying to help this cat in need. We seriously need more people out there like you. If we all just helped one animal that needed it the streets wouldn't be covered with stray animals like it currently is. It's shameful the way people discard their pets. The fact that the cat is even posing for the camera indicates that it's probably a dumped cat. Taking care of a cat is easy so no problems there. And Caseopele is great at finding homes!

People, if you want to help a cat on the street you need to do it asap. There's no dicking around, if someone offers help then take it. This is why people don't like me, get off your asses and help this damn cat! (Not you brooklynpotter, whatchuwant, or leozoeypiper.)

Why don't I help? Because the number of cats in my home is in the double digits and I feed about 15-20 feral cats 3x a week in my own neighborhood. This cat could be taken care of at no cost to whoever can take it in, if you put it in your bathroom that's better than the street.

caseo, i know you made it very clear that you weren't lumping me in with those who aren't helping the cat. thank you. but if asked i'll come help capture the cat, have you walk us through getting it taken care of. that much i can offer.

(for anyone questioning, i have a rather mentally unstable geriatric cat. on top of that. she just had a stack of teeth extracted leaving her none on the left side. taking a chance of messing with her routine? not going to happen. but i'm more than willing to show a non-cat owner how to care for one, the way the woman who i adopted my kitty from did for me more than 16 years ago)

BP, I would gladly help you help this cat. I know you want to do more but can't and I don't blame you for it. Doing rescue for just a few years has made me even more cynical and bitchy, I have no time for armchair rescuers. As my mother always said, shit or get off the pot. Put up or shut up, I guess it means. Always loved that saying. Thanks for your help!

Ha! Shit, I knew you weren't talking to me! I'm up to my eyeballs with 3 rescued cats and 1 rescued dog (not to mention the 4 smelly stepsons I get every other week).

I can't feed and take care of them all fast enough!!!

Oh and Kristen- just take the poor guy/gal in. Cats are awesome, easy going, independent and loving creatures (with the exception of potter's kitty). They're a breeze to care for as opposed to a dog, fo sho.

And we can all pitch in and help you with expenses. So, take that off your list of excuses.

That cat has been on the block since New Years eve. I remember leaving for a party that day and tossing it some meat scraps out of the car window and the cat devouring it in second. Every time my 11yr old sees the cat she takes $1 out of her piggy bank and buys it cat food she has even named it crescent. Too bad I am allergic or I'm sure she would have attempted to bring it home with her.
