I know there is a site where you can check into a doctors history but I seem to have lost it in my computer. I'm going to need gall bladder surgery and I'm going for my second consult but would like to look him up before I get there. I figure someone here knows where to send me. Thanks a bunch.Me & Charley Booger Brown

There may be a better sources, but http://www.vitals.com/ was helpful for me in finding and orthopedic surgeon. Also, just googling the doc to see if she/he's done the procedure much, published or presented any papers on it, etc is helpful.

http://www.castleconnolly.com can also be useful. Their database is used by New York Magazine for its annual Best Doctors issue.

I suggest one way to help decide on which doctor is best is to see where they went to medical school, when they graduated and what hospitals they work in. The other important piece of information is whether or not they are Board Certified. So far by doing this I have found some really wonderful doctors. I get most of my information by googling 2 sites. The first is NYS Professions. This site will tell you if the Dr. is licensed in NYS and where he or she went to school and when they graduated. The second site is ABMS and that is the American Board of Medical Specialties. This site will tell you if the Dr. is Board Certified. You have to register to use this site but it is free. I have used both these sites countless times. The first site also works for all kinds of professions in NYS. Anyone with a license can be checked out here.
