Has anyone else been discriminated against there? It is run by Asian men who have grossly discriminated against African Americans and pretty much near anyone else who isn't Asian. SUN GLOBAL GROUP INC has a huge storefront at 62 12th st (across from Lowe's and next to Lumber Liquidators). My contractor had a client who liked their items (they stock kitchen sinks/vanities/countertop stones, faucets etc for very reasonable prices). She (the client) had spoken to the men there and got some prices and availabilities. My contractor then went in with her and all of a sudden, nothing she wanted is in stock. My contractor is Jamaican. As he told me this story we thought we'd give the store the benefit of the doubt and have me (caucasian) go in there shortly after and ask about the same items. I was told they were indeed in stock and would be available in 5 days. When I asked the fellow who was helping me his name he refused to give it to me. Eventually, and after his asking me 'why you wanna know?' multiple times, he gave me the name of "Tony"... which was CLEARLY not his name. In fact it turns out to be the name of the fellow who works at Lumber Liquidators who he seems to have it out for. When I then asked "Tony" to give me a record of the prices (not many have prices on them) he gave me a scrap sheet of paper and told me to write it down myself. He said he wouldn't write it down. Fishy? So I mentioned this to the guys at Lumber Liquidators (as we had to stop in there) and another African American was there listening to us in the store and he TOO said that he had been discriminated and treated poorly there. It seems to me to be an odd way to run a 'business' (which is often closed for weeks at a time)... Has anyone else experienced this? Frankly, I'm utterly appalled.

Sounds like they were equally rude to you, so not sure its racism. Seems more like a poorly run business. Takes yours elsewhere! And pass the word.

Aptly apply consumer leverage and go elsewhere. Where's that armchair guy with his fantastical plots?

They were merely fishy with me (not giving their name, not writing down prices.) They were downright nasty to my contractor (canceling the order once he showed up, saying things weren't available when they were etc...). Please do pass the word. Anyone know of a reputable bath supply place?

if you're looking for places to do contractor work stuff. goto a whole strip of them around 65 st. from like low aves alll the way up to 10th ave or so. most asian and other immigrant own places.Fight white guilt and injustice by smoking tax free guilt free Reservation Smokes or go gamble in a Native Casino.

Build It Green in Queens gets pretty awesome stuff, but they get what they get and that's it. It's a recycling/overruns kind of place. George Taylor (in Tribeca) is the gold standard of quality faucets etc http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/.../george-taylor-specialties-003015 They moved . . . White St maybe? It's a couple blocks south of Canal St, off Bway. Weissman's on Mcdonald Ave has overruns and other budget choices. Limited, but if they have what you want, it's great. I redid my bathroom when I moved in -- go for quality faucets, fixtures and handles, way more important than higher end cabinets and sinks/tubs.

wonderful thank you!

I walked into this place once as well. I think it might be a front for something. The items they have on display are very strange and since I go to Lowe's a lot I saw the store suddenly appear out of no where. If they're not interested in actually selling bath supply products then there is probably something else going on.

this story reminds me of my local neighborhood Italian and Albanian joints LOL. the italian insurance place. many years back i went in to buy insurance for car, house and other things. they also do taxes according to the signage outside. i went in they said they didn't sell insurance etc... been open for decades. never see people in our out of it. the Albaninan place i know its a front lol. i stay away from that joint very scary men, same men all the time all year round. no other people outside of the restaurant or inside. been recently open for about a decade now.Fight white guilt and injustice by smoking tax free guilt free Reservation Smokes or go gamble in a Native Casino.

I agree with Pitu on George Taylor. Park Slope Plumbing on 5th Ave, however, carries the same brand water fixture lines as Taylor, and they do kitchen cabinet remodeling. You should check these guys out and see if you can get everything done at once. There's also Modern Kitchens on 250 44th St, Brooklyn. They also have very nicely made cabinets and will get you whatever fixtures you need."Clamato! Straight Up! No chasah!

Thank you all so very much! And yes I'm in complete agreement that it's a front. Is there any way to report it or is it best to just stay the f*** away...?
-
just called again today as we're now doing our bathroom and their prices are SO DIRT CHEAP. i asked for their hours and the guy asked 'why do you want to know?' i said 'because we're looking for vanities.' he asked 'have you been here before?" i said 'no' (just to hear what he'd say). he then asked 'how did you hear about us' i said 'from a friend' he said 'ok' and then hung up. SCAM SCAM SCAM FRONT FRONT FRONT! any way to report them???

I think you can try to call the DA's office and file a complaint....although, aside from your hunches (which sound correct, btw), there's no hard-core evidence to prove its a front. Better Business Bureau???"...you can choose the rain....but I choose the sun..." - N. Costa

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, who the hell could ever eat durian? we didn't even take the cookies out, just opening the bag gave us a whiff of the most vile smell EVER. -
Hence Durian eating was actually banned on the Singapore subway when I was there a few years ago. ...Durian icecream, also gross. Must be an acquired taste. ...perhaps at time of birth only. For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.

My wife & I went in recently. They have some really nice stuff at good prices. We wanted a glass vessel sink, a waterfall faucet for it, & a kitchen faucet.
We bargained them down & struck a deal. But the kitchen faucet was discontinued & they only had the floor model. They gave us a good price but when we asked if we could return it if it didn't work the answer was no. We passed on everything but eventually went back & bought the glass vessel sink.
We figured...what's to break or go bad.
They were very polite to us. No problems. But the no returns policy made us hesitate to buy from them.

But your dog is clearly bi-racial. Assuming that your avatar is a photo of your dog. This might be why they were only half as rude to you.

Sorry, meant to say that I'm white & my wife is black in my above post.

Like duh.. am I disoriented?.. Where is this place ? As far as proximity to Lowes.. I think it fronts (or backs) 9th street and goes through to 10th street. So what business is this that is on 12th street?
