Can anyone recommend a place (not necessarily in the Slope) that's safe and reliable and has reasonable prices (say, $200 or less/month for a unit about 50-80 sq ft)? I'm moving overseas and need to stash some stuff for my eventual triumphant return. To have ambition was my ambition -- Gof4

I had a good experience storing stuff at the Uhaul on 4th ave and 6th ish. I thnk I had a large, 8x16x6 on the ground floor for 250 a month. You can go online and see what spaces thay have available and when you get there can look at them before you agree to rent it.

I used Storage Deluxe on 21st St at 39th Ave in Long Island City for about six months and paid $210 per month for an 8 x 10 storage unit. The facility was absolutely spotless and I never saw a roach, and all my stuff was dry and vermin free when I moved it to our new condo. With storage units you get what you pay for.

I used Storage Plus on Metropolitan Avenue. I had a 5x8 room for $125/month. It's in an area that's easy to get in and out of, and the staff was always helpful. They have a website that lists prices...www.nystorage.com. (Now I know why I keep all these old business cards). Hope this helps!

I have the smallest unit avaialble at the uhaul which is something like 4x5x6, but it's only $65 a month. I haven't had any problems and live close enough that we can usually walk to get all our stuff back and forth. Their hours aren't the most convenient and the stuff is generally rude. I called one day to ask what time they closed and the answer was "7 but you gotta get here before then if you wanna get anything out" But once you're setup you don't really need to deal with the staff and they have free carts available for moving your stuff when you get there.

Storagemart on Atlantic is pretty mellow and cheap.

Have you heard about spam link removed? They provide great service, best security and maintenance at affordable prices. Check them out and see if their services and locations suit you. Mod note: This is a shill / spammer for a moving company that pretends to recommend a particular company, using different user names (but all from the same IP address in Bombay, India...take paulallan7, for example...). Whee!

I just took a space at Treasure Island just off the BQE in Red Hook - $159 for 10x10 with 8' ceilings (some places only provide 5' or 6'). Pro: location, location, location. Staff good to deal with. Plenty of easy parking, lots of room to pull up trucks of various sizes. Con: they need to get more carts Used to have a space in Manhattan that I loved - spent 20 years there - but needed more space for less money, and being 5mins away beats being a 45 minute slog through traffic away. I might have considered Uhaul, except in the my dozen or so dealings with them over the years I found the staff to be somewhere between useless and criminally incompetent. Plus, lots of their units are low-ceiling, and/or on raised walk-up levels. And I seem to recall needing their key in addition to my own, and the wait to get that key was sometimes an hour.

There are two or three storage places on Atlantic that are pretty convenient. I don't know pricing, but friends have had a storage room in the one that is directly over Atlantic Yards (between Vanderbuilt and Carlton) for the past 6 yrs and they love it. There is another on the opposite side of the street at Atlantic and Grand and a third at Atlantic and Washington. All of them are long-time businesses so they must be doing something right.

Of course, I don't know exactly what this stuff is, but how long do you think that you'll be gone, and do you know for sure that you'll return? -
I totally agree with blake
