Don't the people who work at national chains live locally too? And don't national chains pay local payroll taxes? Just wondering.Walking on the beaches looking at the peaches.

I needed a new kitchen faucet. I went to the local place and they wanted over $200. I went to the national chain big box store and they wanted $118. I'm happy to spend a little more to support my local merchants but I can't afford to spend that much more.

the flyer doesn't say no money stays local if spent at chains, just that less does, which makes sense since national chains pay payroll tax on administrative employees wherever their headquarters are located.Bumping ancient threads with bot-like bullshit -

and hey, monopolies work out great, am i right? plus, nothing cheers up a neighborhood like empty storefronts and low wage jobs! in the faucet example above, i see going with the big box. if the difference is a dollar or two, thinking about the bigger picture might be in order. actually checking the cost is good, too. for example, given that unnameable books (now on vandy) gives a 20% discount on special orders, it's basically as cheap for me to buy from them than from amazon, even though amazon might seem like it will always be cheaper.Bumping ancient threads with bot-like bullshit

Wait, how does this work? I live a couple of blocks away and only noticed the store a week or two ago. (I hope it's new-ish or I really need to pay more attention. Bought a book there over the weekend though.) If I order a new book from them there's a 20% discount? -
unnameable sells new and used books. if you want something and they don't have it, they'll order it for you and give you 20% off the cover price. in my experience, they usually get it in within a week or so. i <3 unnameable.Bumping ancient threads with bot-like bullshit

Maybe when taxes are cut in this city. Perhaps obama should have bailed out small businesses instead of the auto industry, banks, freddie and fannie etc. Glenn Beck had a good show the other day about small businesses and how they are the backbone of America yet are getting killed with taxes and also if card check and cap and trade take effect.
