Anyone else suffer(ing) from the Union Street Blackout? I came into work early just to get some A/C! 13 hours and counting since a fire (?) underground took out all the power from 5th up to 7th on Union Street. What a great night not to have power.

Regarding the fire, at 8:30 last night I saw a bunch of firemen entering The Slope gym, at Union and 7th.

Thank god I live between 7th and 8th, where we've still got electricity.

Yeah, the entertaining thing about the fire was that our local squad (the ones, you know, housed 80 feet from the situation) appeared to not be the ones who dealt with it. Another squad came in and ours did traffic control. I'm guessing it was due to the nature of the problem (underground electrical).

I just called the Tea Lounge, still no power. Ugh. Hopefully I won't have to sleep somewhere other than my apartment tonight.

      18 hours and counting now.

yeah, I'm in the brownout zone too - the A/C never really got going. Still, VERY happy to have some juice.

Union between 6th and 7th got electric in the early afternoon. They were giving away stuff at the Co-op, which is back in business.

      don't know about 5th to 6th Ave...

Ahhhh, didn't realize there had been a fire. I'm between 4th & 5th and didn't have enough juice to run the ac, and the lights were so low I thought they were going to die any minute!

Lost cable and all power around 11 pm @ saint marks pl and 5th. Walked down to Union and 5th to sit on Louie G benches and read. Power seemed to be out on the west side of 5th all the way from saint marks to union and most likely beyond. Anyone know if power is back on yet?
