Try contacting their social networking support staff thru Twitter or Facebook. they do an excellent job of responding quickly.

Yep, for the last few days my TWC internet connection has been randomly dropping for periods of about 15 minutes or so. I've learned not to try rebooting or unplugging anything - if I do nothing the modem will usually just start blinking (in a good way) again after a little while. It's been very aggravating. If this continues I'll call the bastards and get some credit.

My TW internet was out for a full week. The guy just left and replaced my TW rented router.

2 Weeks ago my wireless was out for 1/2 week. And one month before that they had replaced the router (that today was switched out for a new one.)

So my TW internet situation got so bad I had to request a service call. The guy came out and was actually very friendly, said I had a bad line in the backyard, ran a new one from the pole, booted up the modem again and everything (so far) has been great. My VOIP is working again too!

I see someone bumped this. I'll add on by saying that I have noticed that my connectivity has been very spotty the past few days.

My TW-rented wireless router has been working intermittently recently. I had a guy come out last week to replace it and he said the router was okay but there was a defective AC adapter which was not powering the router (which seemed right because even the PC on the ethernet cable directly attached to the router had no internet). He replaced the AC adapater and everything worked fine for a few days, but now every day I have to reset it before my laptop will pick up the wireless. I should just create my own wireless network I guess.

Thought I'd bump this rather than start a new thread. Anyone having issues in center Slope this weekend? I was out of town for a couple of days and thought the speed problems would work themselves out.....but they haven't.

Local TWC people are worthless, as usual. Just sent an email to the only helpful tech that helped me back in April (see page 1 of this thread)

Our cable has been wonky (freezing, pixelating) and they tell me it's a signal issue, but I think it's the box. It only happens on our HD-DVR box and not the non-HD-DVR box, which gets signal from the same line.

I had a couple of days this past week where my internet went out for a while, there was probably a 2-3 hour outage at one point. When I called in they told me that there were 1700 subscribers in this area (10th and 7th) affected.

My HD DVR is also doing the same as OpossumQueen. I've had to completely reboot it a half-dozen times in the last week and a half. I get a lot of sound outages as well as the pixelating and freezing. I need to replace the box, but I'm not 100% certain that's the problem.

Usually when we replace it (which we've done many times), it seems to work okay for a while then things just go downhill. Our last box was a samsung (maybe--it was black and not a scientific atlanta) and it had a lot more storage space than this one, so I think I'm going to ask for one of those again.

We just moved to a new place last week and the tech who came out to restart service here was here 3 hours. He did his part (drilling a hole, running some cable) quickly but then was on the phone forever to "activate" our service. What a company.

Where approximately do you live in the hood?

Our Time Warner DVR is doing the freezing and pixelating thing too.

I don't live in Park Slope but I've had that freezing, pixelating problem with my DVR in the past. It hasn't done it in the past week or two but it's been a problem on and off for me too. Basically it's a weak single from Time Warner. They can switch out your cable box as many times as they want but the root of the problem is their signal strength.

I'm near 9th St in Park Slope. Again, our non-HD, non DVR box works fine. The DVR sucks like and on recorded stuff. A show might be fine line, but then on playback it's full of freezes, skips, etc. that continue even with rewinding and watching again (like it recorded badly, not bad playback).

We're considering just getting tivo for recording stuff, but I think that means we can't have on demand.

Here's a variation: Our Time Warner television channels are fine in the daytime. However, nearly every evening, we lose the same 5 or 6 HD channels (including Bravo), and the regular Bravo channel as well. My wife is near distraction with the difficulty of watching Mad Men. When I say "we lose", I don't mean pixellation... I mean a completely black screen, or occasionally a pixellated screen without any sound. The next day, everything works fine, until about 6 PM.

I suspect signal strength is indeed the problem... more people watch tv in the evenings, so the signal strength becomes attenuated... I think.

I have trouble mid-day with live tv and with recorded stuff, that was recorded at a real variety of hours and not all from the most popular channels. Pretty much nothing recorded (b/c we prefer to be able to ff through commercials) plays back well.

TWC just sucks. I really wish the cable companies had to compete. Then maybe we would have at least slightly better service.

I think you're right Rob. When we bought a fancy new HD TV a few years ago we had a private contractor install it. They found that the cable signal was too low for proper HD so they installed a small signal amplifier device in our basement, where the cable comes in the house.

A few months ago Time Warner sent one of their service idiots to our house to repair a non-working Internet connection. In the process, he removed the signal amp. The freezing and pixelating DVR started immediately thereafter.

One could have worse problems then your pre-recorded episode of "Mad Men" skipping and freezing but, in my life, at this particular moment in time, this might be the worst thing that's happening. I hate Time Warner.

quick update: internet speed is all over the place both with and without the router.

TWC "reset" my modem remotely and it seemed to respond better for about 12 hours. Next step is to go swap out the modem.

Subject: Meeting with TW Serviceman this afternoon

My internet is slower than a dialup modem during peak hours.

I finally got someone at TWC to schedule an appointment for today between 2pm and 5pm. If they show up, I'm hoping they can actually address the issue.

Anyone know who can install whatever Union Street is talking about to boost signal? We're sick of missing a significant portion of shows/movies and I'm not expecting TWC to actually fix it.

I was having problems with internet connections via my router around the time of most of these posts (earlier in the week) but it is okay now. Still not satisfied with my HD service from TWC. Sound fades in and out. I need a new box b/c I can no longer control the sound via the box. My picture is not as bad as it has been.

OQ: Call Jim at Audio Video Salon:

      http://www.avsalon.com/

Tell him the problem and that you think you might need a video signal amplifier to boost your signal. He'll know exactly what you're talking about. If you are also using TW Internet, you might need them to also install a splitter. The trick with the amplifier is that you need it to jack up your video signal but if you're not careful, you can make the signal too hot for your modem and your Internet will poop out. So, you need someone who knows what they're doing -- i.e. not a Time Warner Cable employee -- to find the signal strength sweet spot.

AV Salon can definitely do this for you but WARNING: These guys are absurdly expensive! I'm sure you can find someone cheaper to do the job. But I've found that they always do a great job on everything from the wiring to the carpentry/installation to the clean-up. I got to a point where I was happier to pay a few extra bucks then waste an entire day waiting for Time Warner to show up and screw up the job.

While sitting here with the tv on as background noise, our cable box pretty much just stopped working (if the norm can be called "working"). Luckily I'm waiting on a TWC tech right now to "check our signal" but the box just keeps rebooting and is actually making strange sounds inside : /

so glad to see others are having issues! Mine got all wacked friday at around 7 pm. Today it was messy around 2pm, so i gave up, then jumped back on at 4pm and managed to have no issues for an hr or so. Now it's wonky again and being really slow (9pm_on) i called and they clam there are no service issues. All my blinky lights are on as normal, but it just won't connect or when it does is super slow.
