Huh, well the depiction in the beginning of a couple of hipsters was kind of funny in a completely cliched way, obviously, no comedic talent was necessary to come up with the idea of a hipster sneering at a Barnes and Nobles. What really puzzles me though is what happens halfway through. Is it suggesting that a typical Brooklyn couple finds a predator hiding behind a bush watching children (the ones the hipsters were looking at a moment earlier) charming? Or is the suggestion just the result of bad editing?

yawn. I mean, I kind-of laughed because I have the same smug "I've never been to Starbucks" attitude, but the only interesting thing in this video was hoping to see someone I know walk past. No one did.
-
i thought the books they were reading were pretty funny. i didnt really understand the ending.
-
Umm, is it just me? I not only didn't get the ending, but, i found nothing even remotely amusing in it

I find it interesting that this was posted on HuffingtonPost.com. This video is getting national exposure.

LongTimeSloper » Umm, is it just me? I not only didn't get the ending, but, i found nothing even remotely amusing in it
Yeah, I was expecting something a lot better. I like to make fun of myself as much as anyone, but seriously, there was nothing I found worth a laugh. -
is it ironic? unfunny on purpose? high camp?

Only white, college educated kids with money from Ohio live in Brooklyn? Wow. Who knew? The couple in this film does not resemble the Mexican couple I witnessed weeping with joy when they opened up their first American bank account at the Citibank on 7th Avenue and President Street last weekend.I blame such comments on beer.

i didn't look at it from a racial angle it was funny i even own that heidegger book but i'm not a couple, so i can hide in that we're all sold on our own fantasies/pretensions many of the generalizations were spot on thumbs up. the actor looked john cusack'ishI know that there are people who do not love their fellow man, and I hate people like that! -- Tom Lehrer (1928 - )

I thought it was hilarious. I live with one of these couples so I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who sees this stuff. The wine/wine bottle scene was the best! Sometimes listening to them talk makes my teeth want to turn around in my head and eat my brain just to make it stop.[/i]"Morgan Freeman once said that Earnest Hemingway once wrote that the world is a fine place and worth fighting for. Morgan agreed with the second part." -Warren the Ape

I think most slopers don't mind the B&N with the starbucks, its always pretty busy in there. But I bet I can make much funnier videos based on other brooklyn sterotypes. Problem is I'd probably get sued. Although it got me thinking. How about a trashy poor couple trying to make ends meet in a time of gentrification while supporting a drug habit and a very thick brooklyn accent? Maybe a foreign couple who barely speak english and run a business ripping off different stereotypical couples while insulting them in their native language? A group of young adults wearing very flashy and seemingly trendy clothing, hanging out on the sidewalk very suspiciously, occasionally stopping in an fast food restaurant.

That was the one scene I didn't get. Are they hungover after a party and fighting over his literary pretensions? The video wasn't bad, but I didn't find it that funny, maybe because people joke this stuff on the boards all the time, so it wasn't anything new. The Crocs scene amused me only because it reminded me of the Crocs-hating thread. What is essential is invisible to the eye. —Antoine de Saint Exupéry -

They are more Nouveau Brooklyn ,then Brooklyn. Time to hide your children and close the bridges, subways, and tunnels.! -
THAT WAS HILARIOUS!
THanks for posting that--there's another Brooklyn profile on You Tube--"The Hipster Olympics" via Wburg. But this one was perfect PS. And that guy's face is so Buster Keaton expressive, I'm gonna go watch it again.
The fact that people on this board "don't get it" just makes it better. Cuz they don't get it. They never do....Ask a burning question, get a burning answer. -
you're so in touch. teach me.

The Chipster » THAT WAS HILARIOUS!
Some get it and have intelligence to see the stupidity of the whole thing. It should have been titled Park Slope, Brooklyn by the way.

The Hipster Olympics (despite being a Python rip off) was HILARIOUS. I think there could be an equally funny Park Slope version, but I just did not think this one nailed it. I don't think it's that people "didn't get it" I think that it just fell short of our expectations. I mean, I am sure we can all make fun of (and recognize) the PS stereotypes, I just think the video should have played them up a bit more. -
i thought we decided crocs were for losers? this video is so 2006.what would you tell me, if i could hear you speaking?--t.r.

I think that some people believe that Brooklyn is Park Slope, Williamsburg, and the other quickly gentrifying areas such as Bed-Stuy (I know there are more, don't feel like listing...) The residents of Marine Park, Mill Basin, Brownsville, Bensonhurt, Dyker Heights, Bay Ridge, Midwood (oh lord, I'm listing...) would most likely not even get that skit...it's simply not their reality. As a girl who was raised in Flatbush, I find it kind of annoying that Brooklyn is losing all of its street cred. Sigh.
-
LAME. I mean, I suppose someone with talent could've made this very funny - but damn this was just a waste of time.

Subject: Lets Thank the Film Makers for Nothing
Talk about moving to New York, observing for 6-monthes, and then creating an video interpretation of things you saw without any sense of style or understanding of Brooklyn, New York, the east coast or life in general. Stop coming to Brooklyn! Please, for your sake, as well as our own … Having said that, I have no idea what this video is about. If the implication is that PS people are soft, elitist, and provincial, I would beg to disagree. I know a lot of PS couples who would have run after that guy in the bushes and clocked his head off. And as for the Park Slope Children-Centric Universe Doctrine, give it a rest. There have been kids in this neighborhood for centuries, and probably a lot more when the neighborhood was mostly working class. Most of us respect the families around us, as we all were once children with our parents.
Video Rating: 0.55 out of 4, which is a D. -
i enjoyed it. but can someone explain the ending?

let me try years have passed, catherine having nowhere to go has returned to prospect heights, she meets heathcliff on the moors. she pleads with him for a place to live. heathcliff now controls both prospect heights and north slope. with spite in his heart he makes catherine his servant, along with hareton, her former servant. soon after heathcliff takes ill and becomes obsessed with the memory his beloved catherine (the elder). madness takes him over. all things remind him of her, even the younger catherine who he dispises passionately. in a delusional fog heathcliff chases her ghost across the moors, collapses and dies from exhaution. hareton and young catherine fall in love. they now own prospect heights.destination: roam
