We've got a couple of vintage chairs that we bought for a song on Ebay. Problem is that they both have the original fabric and could use a re-do. Can anyone recommend a good and affordable upholsterer in Brooklyn?

      Thanks!

I don't remember the exact name but I have used a place on 5th ave and either the corner of 14, 15 or 16th street...on the corner..we have had couches, chairs redone and were very satisfied. He doesn't care if you buy the fabric on your own somewhere else and that can save you a lot of money.

Perhaps someone can figure out the name and post it based on the location.

I highly recommend the woman I work part time for. Her name's Robin and she had a store on Lincoln Place named Three Pedlars. She closed the store and is working from home now, much easier and way better for me! (Robin makes me the yummiest lunches when I'm at her house.) I've known her for at least 5 years and seen a lot of her work. She's a really wonderful person and she has a great eye. I have a gorgeous pair of raw silk curtains she gave me for my birthday. Anyway, the best way to reach her is by cell. 718-964-8411

We have a rocking chair that needs to be reupholstered before we have our baby soon.....I bought the fabric, and just need to take it to someone who can cover the pillows with the new fabric.....and do a great job!

ANY suggestions would be very appreciated.

      Thank you in advance.

H&A are in Dumbo. Take the F to York, walk down the hill one block and turn left, go one block, on the corner of Pearl and Front. They work like dogs and were here long before Dumbo became the toilet it is now. But that's another story.

You could also go to General Nitemare on Columbia Street between Sackett and DeGraw. 3 (charming) Italian brothers own the antiques store and they have an outside guy who does their upholstery. I've never gotten anything upholstered by them but I have seen other people's furniture that got upholstered and the guys does a good job. I don't know anything about H&A so cannot compare the work but G.N. might be cheaper because the neighborhood is less expensive (less expensive rent may mean less expensive prices).

      Good luck!

any updates people would care to offer? I need repair and reupholstery on two danish modern arm chairs I just inherited.

Also upholstery fabric store suggestions? I don't think Ikea is going to cut it.

I guess I'm finally going to go to Mood. I like Thomas Paul pillows...just found they make upholstery fabric...

Thx modsquad -- that topic is now merged with this one.

I wonder if the people who made requests used the suggestions, and how did it go? And how is General Nightmare surviving the death of it's owner a year or two ago?

Based on this thread, I just went to Slinger to get a chair done. Ronnie did a great job at a reasonable price. Took a bit longer than he said it would, but all upholsters are slow, from my experience.

How about upholstery cleaners? I've got a white couch that is...not so white anymore. Could use a nice thorough cleaning. The fabric is not removable.

Ok... I am going to bring this thread back to life! I need to have two cushions made for a danish teak armchair. I will purchase my own fabric. Any suggestions?

I recommend Robin, posted about on this thread three years ago. Based on that recommendation, I contacted her about making slip covers for two couches. She has tons of swatches and will work with you to pick the right fabric, even making house calls. The tailor she works with is fabulous. Not inexpensive, but worth it.

I also recommend Robin. Her work is flawless and she's a nice person to work with.
