Replaced my mom's windows and used Bay Ridge Window & Door. I know it is a little out of the neighborhood, but they were the only company that offered numerous options at the lowest cost. They did everything quickly and professionally. Located at 7825 5th Ave 718-748-2144. There was another place in Sunset Park (forgot name) but they wanted almost TRIPLE!!!!!

We recently redid the windows in our bldg using Windows We Are. Their estimate was competitive and they had very good recommendations and have done a number of bldgs in the Slope.

Airflo windows. They are local to Brooklyn and have a lot of experience with old windows and buildings. The only negative I can say about them is that they can take a little time to manufacture their windows but the windows they make are very well made and fit within the style of old buildings. They have a site too http://airflowindows.com/ . I have seen their work at several different job sites and I highly recommend them.

I used LWP and I really liked the sales guy -- you call, he comes and measures and talks you through options, they come and do the work. It was relatively painless. The windows are fine - this was a few years ago.

If you are in an old building, you should figure out if you're in a landmarked area before you start this process -- it'll make a difference in what you do.

Our contractor swears by Lucky, as do some friends who have gone directly through LWP. If you are landmarked, they seem to know how to get you the right windows.

LWP did very well by us. I chose them because they are local, 3rd generation of the same family & 2 neighbors work there. The installation was quick & efficient. I really noticed, not only no drafts, but also far less street noise with the new windows.

LWP! THAT was the company that was almost triple the cost of Bay Ridge Windows. I will say that they are very professional and do a great job - we DID have to purchase a custom door from them - but you will pay for it. If you have custom windows, you will have less choices. If the windows are fairly standard, I would go with BRW.

We used LWP for our small co-op building to replace all the windows. I can't comment on their prices because someone else in the building was in charge of the project and I don't think we got more than one estimate. Perhaps that was a mistake.

We got windows with extra sound proofing. They worked well but the soundproofing wears off over time. Several windows also collect condensation between the two panes of glass.

We've had these windows for several years. I don't know if we'd have had the same problems if we had gotten windows from another company. But if I had it to do over again, I would shop around more.
