Since at least 6am on Friday, there has been a constant beeping sound coming from somewhere in the backyard area between President and Carroll, 4th and 5th... It sounds a lot like a CO2 alarm, or some sort of alarm, but it's been going non stop. This isn't the first time either. At the end of the summer there was a period when it beeped for several days straight. Maybe it's my drafty windows, but I can hear it clearly from bed and it's been driving me nuts. I've been around the block a few times, and it is loudest standing on Carroll at around 600 or 602... but I think it's coming from the inside of the block. I've also listened from the back door of bageltique, and it sounds like it's coming from somewhere in the middle, but not the 5th ave end of the block. Please, if you know what address is beeping, let me know!

We can hear it too.

maybe call 311 ? It would be terrible if i was a CO2 alarm and that god-forbid the people hadn't heard it....
-
you can hear it for a block in every direction, so I'd imagine they've heard it if they were home. I called 311 about it in the summer, and they put me through to police, who swung by at 3 am and did nothing about the beep, which continued for another 24 hours... so I don't know what I can do without knowing where it is.

start knocking on doors. meet your neighbors.

It officially went off around 9pm tonight. My guess is that someone went away for a long weekend and an alarm went on ringing. I'd still like to know what it was, and where.

Thank goodness.

This happened on our block two summers ago, Someone threw away a smoke detector w/out removing the battery. Well, smashed into a trashbag, the test button was pressed for about 2 days straight. Annoying? You bet! The super next door finally tore through the mountain of trash, found the smoke detector and removed the bleepin' battery.

It's beeping again.
