Subject: Where to Renew Driver's License?

Does anyone have experience with the DMV in Atlantic Center vs. the DMV in Midtown? I expect it to be a painful process, as DMV navigation is anywhere, but was hoping to choose the lesser of two evils.

      Thanks in advance.

If it's just a renewal, I would suggest the DMV express on 34th st near Penn Station, nearly painless. I've been there twice and been out in 15 or 20 minutes both times.

    3. I've been both to the one in Atlantic Center and the "License X-Press" office in midtown. The "X-Press" (why the hell they can't just call it "express" is beyond me) is definitely faster, but not *that* much more so, and you do have to schlep all the way to midtown. If you don't work near there, it's probably easier to just go to Atlantic Center first thing in the morning when they open, before the lines are terribly long.

To speed things along for either location, you can go to the NYDMV website, print out whatever forms you're going to need, and have them already filled out when you go in.

I went to the downtown Manhattan office (on Maiden Lane, I think). It was actually very fast (mid-week, 9am).

I've only been to the Coney Island office... it was busy but seemed quick (though we did go in the middle of a weekday).

I think it has more to do with when you go rather than where. First thing in the morning there is a line as people try to get their business taken care of before work. If you go after 9:30am-10am the lines have usually started to die down. It gets busy again around lunch time.

Say can't you do that online? I just got my new registration and it says you can renew your DL online at nysdmv.com

I just got an out-of-state license flipped over to a NYS license at the Atlantic Center location. Got there about 15 minutes after they opened. There was a line in front of me, but I was still out in less than 30 minutes... this was on a weekday.
...not that there's anything wrong with that.
