Since y'all were so helpful with my body shop question last week, I thought I'd try another...

Does anyone know someone they could recommend for selling and installing window treatments? Not talking about anything really fancy -- mostly up/down honeycomb blinds, but as always, installation in these old funky houses can be challenging, so I need someone who's expert in sizing and installing.

If you know anyone who does carpets, that would be really helpful too. Otherwise I'll probably just go to Lowe's and take my chances.

We had our carpet installed by Home Depot many years ago and they did a fantastic job. it is still in very good condition many years later. no bumps or rolls anywhere.

Try Caesar's on 5th and Prospect Ave for carpets and other flooring.

LongTimeSloper, thanks for the recommendation. I actually had some carpet installed by the Despot about 10 years ago, not long after they'd opened. They did a very good job, as you said. However, since then the Gowanus Home Despot has disintegrated into something that looks like a post-Katrina looted-out wasteland populated by zombies, and I haven't had a good or even decent experience there in 5 years. Also, I've read many, many horror stories online. Apparently they hire outside contractors and you get what you get. Honestly, I don't know what to think -- I had a good experience years ago, like you, but given the overall disintegration in the quality of the HD brand in general....?

Reader, good tip -- it would be nice to go local. Have you had work done by Caesar's?

I recently had my windows measured and blinds installed by the Lowe's on 2nd Ave. It was a good experience over all. The guy did a great job and it wasn't ridiculously expensive.

I ordered custom wood blinds from Pinchick and had a great experience. I measured and they did the installation. I'd definitely recommend them. They did three bay windows in two different sizes. Turns out I had measured one incorrectly and the installer took it back reordered it and returned in a couple of weeks to install the new one. Very easy and painless.

I had the stairs in my house done by them, and then I had the stairs in my mothers house done too.

My experiences both times were good. They came and measured, then they installed when the order came in. I was pleased that they showed up on time, did a nice job and left everything clean at the end.

i can secon dthis recommendation. I have used them for many years and as far as I know the ownership has not changed.

      Home Depot is a wreck!!

      I never go there.

Lowes can be o.k... assistance in certain departments is more knowledgeable and helpful than others and haven't bought floor coverings there.
