There may be a thread on this already, but any updates on the supposed winebar that was going in on 7th, around 12th or 13th-ish or so, across from the wine store? They've had the windows papered up for months, and when it was warm, I saw them doing the remodling, a LONG while back it seemed almost done. I suspect it's either a booze license issue or an "oops, the ecomomy tanked issue" Any indsider knowledge? Also, side note, I noticed a new nail salon is going in to the old store Bird. WTF? Aside from sushi on 7th, most of the other stores seem to be nail salons. Who decided we needed another?!?!
-
I'm usually the one who updates everyone on this but I've fallen off the ball...last I heard was beginning of Oct and Brian (co-owner and co-owner of Big Nose Full body) said end of Oct. Obviously that didn't happen. I'll try to sniff something out.whoa hey whoa hey whoa
-
Nail salons and cell-phone stores -- so lame, so unoriginal, so cheap to create, so hard to get rid of.
-
I asked at BNFB last week and they said hopefully the first few weeks in December. I didn't get specifics but they did mention license and permit delays.
-
thanks for keeping us up to date...Im DYING for this place to open!
-
Me too! But not as much as the Korean place in the old Tea Lounge spot!

Subject: Opens today
Hey the place is called Brookvin and it should actually open up today. If anyone stops by I'd love to hear how it is. I'm planning on heading to Bussaco tonight which I would highly recommend if you're thinking of stopping in. -

Not sure... sorry. None of the articles have anything re: opening date. Should check in with Big Nose. Also, from what I could see... it still looked like there was some construction going on. My guess: a week and a half based on what I could see. I'm most excited as I know there is a nice outdoor space in this unit: how cool will that be in the summer! Anyhow: us PS Forum folks should get a discount for all the discussion we have about this place!Did Someone Say Walk? -
I am so there. I hope they have some stanky ass cheese. Anybody know? The article says sausage, but I need me some cheese!
-
Little bits of info at a time... according to Brownstoner, it is listed as "Opening This Week: Brookvi." Hummmm.Did Someone Say Walk?
-
I walked by last night... not open yet, BUT there were a lot of crushed boxes that appeared to be wine boxes, out front. That's a good sign!

The anticipation/speculation continues...Did Someone Say Walk? -
Big Nose sucks. Always a stupid name for a place that specializes in industrial wine. I have low hopes for this place.
-
I walked by last night --they have the awning up (not sure if it was up before and I did not notice it, maybe it was too dark out). Anyway, it is, indeed, called BrookVin. I'm excited.
-
So: an update from Big Nose. Apparently the plumber (hate him/her now) did correctly apply for a permit. THUS, everything is delayed. The nice guy I spoke with said they are "hoping" sometime between Christmas and the new year! Here's hoping to maybe celebrate the new year there? Anyhow, KosherDave is right... new awning (check the pic).

Question for non french speakers --- how will you pronounce this place?
-
brook (like Brooklyn), vin (like Vindicated) is my guess. How would French speakers pronounce it?Did Someone Say Walk?
-
"van" as in "vanity"; not van as in "man"
-
sort of, but no n there's no equivalent in english of the nasal sound........
-
booklaw » "van" as in "vanity"; not van as in "man"
i know how to say "vin" in french, but these sounds are the same to me.Bumping ancient threads with bot-like bullshit -
I grew up in western NYS, where we pronounce the "a" in "man" the same as in "mayor". It's the same as a midwestern or Chicago accent.

Sexy!

Only to another upstater!

They have a sign on the door that says grand opening is the 22nd, 5pm. Whose going? I think I'll check it out later in the evening (8-ish) They also took down the paper blocking the window... looks really nice in there. Should be cool.Did Someone Say Walk?
-
Still not open? They've got to be waiting for the license then. I remember when the Beer Table was opening up, they had a note in their window for close to 2 months, saying that they are ready, but still waiting for the liquor license.
-
it's getting closer.... just walked past tonight and it looked like they were having a training session... hope that involves tasting!Blind cats should never, ever run.

I think the sign said "private party." How do I get THAT invite....Did Someone Say Walk? -
Mm... I got that invite. I've known Brian for years (you probably have as well, from the wine shop, Steinhoff, Two Boots) so I landed the invite to the soft opening of brook-vin. Nice. Anyway, so full disclosure before my little review (cuz brooklynian hates a shill): yes, I ate for free and yes, friends are involved place. Yes, Brook-vin kicks ass! The decor was perfect for the snowy night. Brick wall with fireplace (non-functioning), shiny tin roof, wood floors, wood and zinc bar. The walls are a very warm shade of blue and the windows fogged up making it ultra cozy. The wine list is what you would expect from Big Nose Full Body, interesting and accessible. In an effort to limit how much free vino we could throw down our gullets the booze options were limited (smart). The house red was solid and I felt the cold a little less leaving than arriving. It does the trick. The base of the cocktail list is 8 infused vodkas and 6 house made syrups. There are some good sounding drinks on the list but you can also mix and match, make your own. I tried a watermelon basil and a blueberry sage which were nice and light, not overpowering or sweet. I think good warm weather drinking when they open the garden. And the food. Yum. It seems like brook-vin is going to be a place you can go out and do something nice for your palate. There are lots of small plates and interesting wines. Do you pair the wines with the food or the food to the wine? I tried 4 dishes and what struck me was how well all the flavors were balanced. Pimenton roasted almonds, chopped liver tartine, a charcuterie plate and a nice roasted squash salad. The charcuterie was served on thin sliced apples, with black pepper. The chopped liver was tamed by a nice brown bread toast. Very well thought out fare. Unfortunately, with my full belly and warm wine glow I forgot to ask when the official opening is. Sorry! It seems like they should be going full force really soon!
-
Yum! Thank you for the review! I am so excited for this place!

You might have trouble convincing people to go out after Obama drinks tonight and unreal world at whynot's tomorrow, especially for wine. I, however, am an irrepressible lush and would be happy to go.
-
I already have my seat.
-
Is anyone going tonight? I might drag the boy out for a glass depending on how early he gets off work. For those who don't know me, look for the blonde with the guy covered in tattoos- that would be us. Come say HI!
whoa hey whoa hey whoa -
I'm going, and was trying to bully beaver and voodoo into going but who knows with those two.
-
I called Big Nose Full Body and they told me it opens at 5 and to try and get their early. I guess it depends on what happens when I go see my new boyfriend Derek.
