this dude with a guitar robbed a northern Prospect Heights apt building on Friday early morning and left with 2 bicycles and possibly other things. Does anyone know this guy?

Did he show up with the guitar on his back? Cause that would be pretty ballsy if he did. Or was the guitar just another item that he stole?
-
yes,he showed up with it. it may have held the boltcutters..who knows. or maybe he just left a gig...

If you zoom in on him, it looks like he has a beard.
I kinda like the guitar case as a way to hide bolt cutter theory. That would make this thief more clever than many.
One should always try to be good at what one does...

Hmmmmm, could this be the notorious bicycle theif of Park Slope I've been hearing about?
-
The city has many bike thieves. I think the hope that one is the same as the various thieves that steal bikes in other neighborhood may be unfounded.

It's really a shame CCTV cameras are still so lo-fi.

Hopefully someone recognizes the guy, though it's hard without seeing his face. I wrote a blog post about the theft here: http://beta.local.yahoo.com/resident-turns-brooklynian-solve-crime-yahoo-contributor-network?woeid=2459115

About 3 weeks ago, someone stole 2 bicycles from my father's apartment building in Park Slope as well. Any leads on this PH bike thief?

about 5'7", lighter-skinned african american, in his 40's, grey goatee, scruffy, skinny build.

Can we assume this matter has been brought to the attention of the 77th pct as well?

Bike thefts are not that big of an issue. We have bigger fish to fry.

Really, LillithofArc? Property crimes are a very serious issues that impact overall quality of life. While bike, electronic, and various other types of theft aren't generally accompanied by murders and shoot outs, catching these people can help address some underlying issues like substance abuse. It can also help people become less paranoid about their belongings. It really has to suck to leave your home for work, school, etc. and have to stress all day about whether or not you'll come home to find your place of residence burglarized.

The police have relatively clear photos of a guy who is apparently guilty of breaking and entering and felony theft - how is that not a big issue?
Edit: I see from your previous posts that you're either a troll (Whynot's theory) or you don't care about law and order, to the point that you refuse to file a police report on muggers who (supposedly) pushed you down, injuring you, and stole your electronics. Either way, I'm sorry I bothered responding to you.

So you think I am wrong? Ok, when was the last time you heard that a bicycle thief was caught? Well, I am waiting. I will give you a hint. NONE HAVE BEEN CAUGHT! Look up and down this forum and you will see many many complaints about bicycles and their parts being stolen in Park Slope. For god sakes look at the title of this very thread with video of the a serial bicycle thief being sought but has yet to be apprehended. Why? To put it bluntly the police have their hands full with bigger fish like Robberies, Assaults, Murders and Rapes. Simply put there are not enough resources to go after the smaller crimes.
Try going to the precinct meetings once in a blue moon and get educated on teh facts of your community or try voicing your opinion there. These facts come from the mouth of the commanding policeman at the local precinct. Petty crimes area lower priority in the eyes of the N.Y.P.D.

Hopefully through community involvement (like posting his picture on this site) he will be caught soon.

Something tells me this guy has been caught before and will be caught again.
Arraignment Part is always full of such guys, arrested for misdemeanors of various kinds.
Yes, let's hope his turn comes up again soon.

Don't hold your breath when it comes to the police. The grand larcenies on my street 2 years ago were basically ignored.
The residents were the ones that combed through hours of surveillance footage. We were the ones that emailed the photo of the perpetrator around. Someone recognized the guy and we obtained the name, address, phone and SSN from his employer! We handed all this info to the police, and ... nothing.
Explanations/excuses from the police included:
They were busy with other cases.
The detective on our case was on vacation.
They supposedly went to the guy's residence, but he wasn't there. So after about a year of us hounding the police (they hardly ever return your calls, and never have any answers/updates for you when you actually get someone on the phone), we were finally told that the burglar was already in jail for a separate, unrelated crime. And that was that.
So, while I still hope the police actually catches your thief, I think my experience is, sadly, not the exception.

First off, calm the hell down. Secondly, don't be silly, of course bicycle thieves have been caught, you're being ridiculous. The point of this post is to try to get help from the community to identify this guy. You jump in claiming that "we" have bigger fish to fry, as if people on Brooklynian are supposed to be out solving murders or something. We're doing what we can to try to help someone get their bikes back, yet you feel the need to dismiss our efforts out-of-hand. If you are, in fact, referring to the police as having "bigger fish to fry," yes, you're correct, but that's not what this post is about. Save your misguided and potentially dangerous attempts at social engineering for your next precinct meeting.
