**Postponed for weather, humidity, sleep-deprivation, and hangovers** We'll leave from under the arch at GAP, head through the park and then move over to the Bedford Ave bike lane for a straight shot to Sheephead Bay, then follow the car-free bike trail to the Marine Park Bridge and into Riis. Ride distance is approx 12 miles each way - almost completely flat. Pace will be gentle. Depending on interest, there may be a side trip to a "hidden" lunch spot over near Beach Channel Drive. We have early interest from: Arches and g/f Christina Mr. and Mrs. Carnivore Who else??

oops - dont know why i put it in random. Can someone global? MOD NOTE: Done. -C

*poof* I'm in, I think. Will confirm tomorrow (saturday). Christina had asked about the exact location of the Wharf (where we stopped at last summer), so you guys should be able to find it even if I don't come along. I sent her the location, but incase anyone else is interested: It's on the bay end (not the beach end) of 116th Street and Beach Channel Drive, behind the big Duane Reade and the gas station right next door to it on the right. Just go down that big alley/road thing on the right side of the gas station and you'll run right into it on your left. Hope I can make it... Oh, and why Bedford rather than Ocean Parkway? I've never been that way before, so just wondering what the difference is.. More than happy to take either route.
-
I hope the weather plays along. At the moment they're predicting severe thunderstorms in the afternoon.
-
I am tempted, but actually think I'm likely to head that way earlier in the day. Am heading that way in about an hour too. Lots of places of interest down that way.(traffic tip: Take Neponsit or Newport or Cronston from Riis to 116. Less traffic than Beach Channel or Rockaway Beach Blvd--more relaxed riding.) Have fun if you go.

If you PM some of us, we can exchange cell numbers so we can meet up when we get there if you're still around. -
Sounds good. Missed last years and it sounded fun. Count me in.
-
Yeah, crap, looks like decent chances of thuderstorms between noon and 6ish. Unless it rains and we all bail, I'm definitely in as of now.
-
If this falls through due to weather, I can do a midnight ride almost any night this week.
-
My non-Brooklynian Sunday beach plans involve dim sum Plan B...you might consider it...
-
Carnivore » If this falls through due to weather, I can do a midnight ride almost any night this week.
Same, just about any night. -
I say let's postpone to next Sunday. I feel a hangover-nursing, relaxing on someone else's roof afternoon coming on.
-
Yeah, sky is not looking promising for beach or bike at the moment. Unless it changes, I think postponement is probably the right choice.
-
Blue skies! Now the forecast is saying storms start at 5pm. http://www.weather.com/outlook/homeandgarden/home/hourbyhour/graph/USNY0996?from=36hr_topnav_home If we skip the detour to the lunch spot, we can probably be back before the rain starts. If anyone wants to bring along lunch for the beach, I can put a bunch of stuff in my bike bags.
-
Back from a run and man it's humid out there. I will go with my plan B today. Sorry!
-
Is this officially postponed?? If so, please can you change the thread title or something?
-
Not yet, so far only I'm not coming
-
What say you Arches?? Postponed or not?
-
I say we go for it. Who is still in?
-
I'll come, if it's still on. I may be a big sweaty mess, but nothing I can do about that!
-
I just got up. It does look nice out, but based on last year's ride, it's about 3.5 hours of riding total, which would barely leave us any time at the beach if we want to get back before the rain. And I'm not in any shape to try do it faster today. I think if we can postpone this until next week when I'm not totally sleep-deprived, I'd be in favor of that (especially if we would skip a lunch spot today, since I'm a lunch enthusiast). I could still do a midnight ride around the park tonight if people are down.
-
I'd be up for joining, but wow, it's grossly humid out. Next time, and I hope there is one as I only recently got a bike and would love riding around w/people and learning about the places I can go.I believe in peace, bitch.
-
Dropping like flies!! Alright, seems the majority is seeking a postponement. Let's hold off for now. Sorry, Nomad.
-
No problemo! Next week maybe?
-
nomad » No problemo! Next week maybe?
I'd be down with that! -
Next Sunday would be perfect, maybe around 10am already?
-
whew, I'm glad it was postponed! I checked the weather late last night, saw there was still a good chance for rain between noon and 6, and figured it wasn't going to happen.. Stayed up much later than I should, and rolled out of bed shortly before noon (not enough time to make it), kinda bummed to see that my gamble was wrong and it it was freaking sunny out. I'd in for next sunday, 10am, noon, whatever.
-
Next Sunday it is!
-
I'm tentatively in. Is there a meeting time and place?Walking on the beaches looking at the peaches.
-
GAP and I'm rooting for 10am so we're not riding in the hottest time.
-
Nevermind, I'm out. Forgot I had something else planned with friends.. grrr. next time! They're the flaky kind, though, so maybe they'll flake out the night before.
-
Why don't you flake out first? with them...not with us.
-
Christina » GAP and I'm rooting for 10am so we're not riding in the hottest time.
10AM? Sunday morning? But, but that' still booty call time!Walking on the beaches looking at the peaches. -
If you're thinking of riding to Riis Park on a Sunday at this weather with a bunch of Brooklynians there certainly wasn't a booty call going on beforehand... (meow)

LOL!!
If we still had that rating feature , you'd get 5 stars for that one."Some people make their goals the stars,
They may live and die never reaching them,
but in the darkness of the night, those stars will guide them to their destination, because they put them in their sights." -
Christina » Next Sunday it is!
How 'bout Saturday? It's supposed to be the nicer of the 2 days: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?site=okx&FcstType=text&map.x=98&map.y=214&site=OKX And none of this 10AM crap. For some of us (ok, me, at least), I'm still in bed at that time. How 'bout Saturday, noon at GAP? -
I can do later, but I can't do Saturday.
-
Christina » I can do later, but I can't do Saturday.
Ditto. -
Carnivore »
I can do later, but I can't do Saturday.
Ditto.
OK, scrap the Saturday idea then. I'll just go both days then. Saturday with the gf, and Sunday, weather permitting, with everyone else. -
Alright, seems the consensus is for Sunday, so i'm editing the title to reflect that. There's a good chance I'm out of town this week, so I might not be able to make it.
-
arches » There's a good chance I'm out of town this week, so I might not be able to make it.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Mendoza!!!
-
MOUGAR!!!!
-
Hey arches, don't think I can make the ride but would love to hear about your secret lunch spot
This bike ride is one of my favorite NYC ways to spend a day... -
I'm in for Sunday. Hopefully it's at 10am instead of hot as hell 1pm!I believe in peace, bitch.
-
Are we still on? If we ride early we can avoid the pm thunderstorms perfectly. Headcount please! Me - in
-
Ok, I'm back in. Weather for Sunday isn't looking particularly good. Argh!!
-
Me! I'm in! Provided its not actually raining when we set off.
-
So I propose we meet at 10 am @ Grand Army Plaza. Let's do it!
-
I have returned from the outer banks 3 lbs heavier from 1 week of beer. ...I could do this from 10 -3.For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.
