Anyone bought any wheels from Bicycle Station on Vanderbilt? How's the service, prices, merchandise? Any cheaper than bike shops in Manhattan? I'm in the market for one of those nifty folding bikes, and I saw online that they sell them. I'll be stopping in in the coming week, but thought I'd get some opinions first.

friendly guy. i recommend them. had my knobby tires replaced with slicks earlier this week. only charged me $4 per tire. then i left the knobby ones there for a few hours while i went to bike the prospect park loop a few times. i recommned them.

I work there. In my opinion, it is the best bike shop in New York as far as prices, service, honesty, friendliness, and selection. Come on in and see me, christine, mike, milan, moss, and greasy the cat all working our butts off to get your butts on a bike! also we have fabulous neighbors Carnivore » I went to the bike shop on Vanderbilt for the first time yesterday. I am a super-amateur cyclist who uses my bike mostly just for transportation. Despite this, the staff was very patient with my (presumably) stupid questions. They made me feel very comfortable, and their prices seem quite reasonable. I will definitely be back for all my cycling needs!carnivore, which bike is yours?!

Subject: Just bought a used Specialized Hybrid on Wednesday
I had walked in on Wednesday morning to buy a brand new $300 bike and since he was out of stock Mike showed me some used bikes he had that were similar. he hooked me up with a great bike for half the price. He had to do a bunch of stuff to it and told me to come back in a few hours. The poor man was so harried he kept asking me to come back later. i totally understood and because I was patient he took even better care of me and set me up with a great price on alock and some other stuff. I know R & A in the slope has some, at least according to the Duhon (fold up bicycle maker) website.are those things any good? I have a kinda small apartment and have been wanting a bike for awhile. apparently there's a reasonably lightweight bike at the bike shop but still. I'm also on the 4th floor.

I'm also on the 4th floor.[/quote] dahon bikes are ok, def the better amongst folding bikes. but folding doesnt always equal light, thats for sure. it just equals compact, space-wise. some of the oflders are heavy as a satchel of bricks, where my full-size fixie tops out at around 15 pounds. mike can getcha a dahon, but you might wanna inquire about what all your options are before springing several hundred $ on a heavy folding bike, if weight is the issue.

You can check it with no penalty. Ever fly with a bike in a standard case? $$$$$$$$$ Anyhow, the frame is a copy in aluminum of the Ritchey frame. Price is the thing. IF bikes start at $1650 for a steel frame and go into the stratosphere from there. Great bike if you like to travel. You wouldn't race it, but you could certainly take it to France for L'Etape du Tour or the like.
