Hi folks. Does anyone know where I can donate a coat in the neighborhood? The New York Cares annual Coat Drive is done for the season, so I was looking for someplace in the neighborhood.

I know about the guys at the Greenmarket, but they reuse the fabric for other purposes. That's cool, but since this is a usable coat I'd like it to go to an actual person who needs a coat.

      Thanks.

CHIPS on 5Th Ave and Degraw or Warren will take it and they do give to local people in need. I once passed a woman wearing my donated coat a few blocks from there. I spotted it a half a block away, and felt good it was used locally.

There are a couple of charity clothing bins outside Ali's laundromat on the corner of St John's and Washington.

those boxes don't go to charity they are private companies who collect clothes and tehn sell them to used clothes places and give usually between 10-25% od the NET to the charity

There was a big scandel about those boxes a few years ago

You can donate your coat at the 78th police precinct on 6th Ave between Bergen and Dean. I donated two coats there in November.

The GrowNYC textile recycling program does put usable clothing back into circulation as clothing - I know that at first they were explictly partnering with Goodwill.

The police station coat drives are part of NYC Cares, and are over for the season.

      coffeecoffee,

I predict you could bring your coat to any one of the city's shelters and that they would thankful for it.

If you wanted to stay really local, you could donate your men's coat to the shelter at Atlantic and Bedford.

If your coat is female, you could put in the hands of the folks who run the women's shelter in Park Slope:

For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.
