Yesterday I heard that with only three weeks notice, Tavern on Dean was told by their landlord that their lease will not be renewed. Can anyone confirm the rumor?

If so, this is a really sad thing for the neighborhood.

When I was in rehab a met a nice lady-cop who'd been sent to rehab for booze. She liked to drink at Tavern on Dean. I should stop by soon I guess if I want to check her out again.

...not to be bad, but I wonder what the landlord's plan is.

He must have a new tenant lined up.

I thought the owner of TOD was the owner of the building as well.

...I think we need to first confirm said rumor.

If it's true, it would be a shame... no, the owners of the building are not the same owners of Tavern on Dean. If you noticed, there is no more garden area, that was because the owner of the building took back ownership of that area for "plans". This might be an extension of those plans.

This place was mediocre at best. Just as the old Dean Street Cafe has been forgotten, this place, if slated for closure, will probably be replaced by something better.

I heard there will be parties every night until they close, and a big barbecue on their last day (6/26).

tavern on dean is a great place. food is very good, great bartenders, great music. people talk to each other at bar. it has/had just a good vibe.

I always found the food to be mediocre at Tavern on Dean. Stopped going there a few years ago. Also, was really annoyed by the 17% gratuity that they automatically added on to all checks. Thought it was interesting that they did this at Tavern on Dean but not at their other restaurant Tavern on Jane in the West Village which serves a mostly White clientele. Good riddance.

I always think about leaving a note saying that I usually tip 20%, but I guess they only want 17.

But I don't, and even without my extra 3%, it probably helps the wait staff, so oh well.

      Bummer that it's closing.

Very sad! They are the only pub like place in the area since Snooky's closed. We love their burger's and I will truly miss the Lillian's Cobb Salad served my way. Snooky's, then Freddy's and now Tavern on Dean! What is this neighborhood coming to!

We had dinner there last night and it is true. They were going to renew their 10 year lease and their landlord said "he was going in another direction". From what we were told is that TOD had made a few some repairs in anticipation of their lease being being renewed and they were planning sidewalk seating.

Very sad! We are regulars there and we will miss the staff and the restaurant. As of now they are scrambling looking for new employment... if anyone can help?

sooo...with the landlord shooing them out so quickly, I assumed they had another project ready to come in and take over right away. But the sign still says 'vacant' outside. Any updates on what's going to happen to this space?

So, is TOD trying to set up somewhere nearby, or are they toast?

I ate at TOD during their last week, I talked to the wait staff and they said there is no plans to open a replacement place, so if you need to get your TOD fix, go to Tavern on Jane in Manhattan.

A lot of new info in this post, but I'm especially interested in Dean Street, the new bar in the old Tavern on Dean space. Anyone know more details? They'll serve food I imagine.
