i saw what looked like a black helicopter circling around from about 8 to 9 this morning (weds, 6/15). is that what you're talking about? from where i was i couldn't make out any markings, nypd or otherwise.

They hovered for a long time! I checked my scanner and I didn't hear anything unusual.

This thread caused me to visit gothamist again, where I saw this completely unrelated incident:
