Anyone have a company to recommend? Moving from one studio to another. One Company I've called charges $96 an hour for 3 men with a $96 truck fee, with a possibility of a fourth man coming on the job at $20/hr. How does that sound?

i think uhaul does $50 an hour

in fact, I think uhauls site refers other companies to you. (movers that is)

Uhaul doesn't do anything other than rent trucks. Although they did refer me to Budget, which referred me to Moving Staffers which gave me a price that was near double the company "Top Hat," that I mentioned in my original post. Thanks though hitokiri.

I highly recommend Movers Not Shakers.

They will give you a flat fee based on the amount of items you are moving. You can fill out an estimate form on their website, then someone from the company will call you with a quote.

They are extremely reasonable and incredible on moving day. They are notoriously EARLY which is a great change of pace for NY and will get everything out of your apartment and into the truck so fast your head will spin. Moving everything back in is just as quick.

I have used them twice myself, have recommended them numerous times, and everyone has been very happy with them.

I used Moving Your Way to move from PS to PH: http://movingyourway.com/

They were courteous, fast and careful with my stuff. I was very impressed. The owner will drop by to estimate your stuff, which I found more reassuring than an online quote.

They showed up really early (45 minutes) when we used them and almost left b/c we weren't there and left lots of rude/nasty messages on my phone. They were efficient at loading the stuff but once loaded. They said they would be right behind us but we sat at the new place for 3-4 hours waiting for them to show up and nobody there would answer the phone. As we were paying the main guy pretty much demanded a tip (of an amount he told us) and I thought that was really weird and rude. I was not thrilled, but they didn't break anything.

Big Apple Movers broke lots of things and lost one bookshelf and refused to disassemble furniture that I had paid extra to have them disassemble (b/c moving it in one piece would reduce its stability).

I've heard lots of great things about College Educated Movers and have them on my list next time we move.

I just did a move with Shleppers and they were wonderful. I was told the move would take 4 1/2 hours, but it took less and of course I was charged less. I believe it was $140/hr but it might change depending on your move specs (don't hold me to this though).

The service was great, they called when they were on their way and beat my husband to the new place.

I highly recommend them. and so far almost everything is unpacked and nothing is broken.

I have used Big Apple Movers three times and have been happy every time. The most recent move was by far the most difficult but the guys were great. Expertly disassembled and then reassembled my California King bed. Nothing broken, fast efficient and came in significantly under the estimate.

I used Sonic when I moved about 18 months ago...They had problems (ie the truck broke down), BUT they handled it very well...They called me before they were supposed to arrive and gave me an updated ETA (They ended up coming at around 2:00PM instead of 9:00AM) and they sent an extra guy to help finish everything up faster...I wish this sort of competent customer service wasn't surprising these days...
