I'm moving to Classon and Prospect Place in less than a month and although I've lived in Brooklyn for awhile I am new to the 'hood. Is this considered Crown Heights? This site is a wealth of information but I figured I would just post and if anyone had anything to offer someone soon to be new to the area I would appreciate it. Hope everyone is staying cool...

We'll be neighbors! Yup! It's Crown Heights! we haven't moved just yet, but we'll be moving in less than a week... we're only 2 blocks away right now, though, so i'm pretty familiar with the area.

it's good to know that there will be some other new faces on the block perhaps my roommate and I should host a party once the furniture is in place or maybe it's better to do it when it's not.

Jayce I noticed you were asking around about safety etc., what's been your general feeling. I am a single female in my mid-twenties and I love the neighborhood but also would love to know more about my particular block, etc.

Are you moving into the Jewish Hospital on Classon and Prospect? If so, please tell me you got a good deal: I've been on Classon and Park for three years, and the hospital's rents are crizzaaazy out of line.

i spent a lot of time tromping around that night until around 11pm up and down washington. i talked to people in the building i am moving into. i talked to people next door. i walked right up to the creepy dudes hanging on the corner and talked to them too. i figure if i am gonna get mugged, better to do it right away and then if not, maybe i might actually meet some people. and what i found was that everyone was really happy and welcoming. i didnt feel concerned for my safety at all. and the more i paraded around, the more people smiled as i walked by.

the single women i talked to told me they walk home from the 2/3 down washington at 1am with no issues. so i think that was a good sign. and they also told me they had been living there for like 4 years at a go and had no issues. so yeah, i feel good about it. but that being said, i am going to tromp around some more this friday night and see how i feel then.

but yeah, i feel good about it. and i like getting to know the locals and the creepy dudes on the corner. chances are if they like the dykey looking girl from the get-go, life will be a lot easier. you know?

They're trying to get the studios for $1000!!!!!

Not sure about the one-bdrms or three-bdrms...

Two-bdrms range from 1500-1850 (the ones with the balcony-ish part).

I got a good size two-bdrm on the 5th floor for less than 1500, I mean I am no real estate genius but it doesn't take a genuis to see what's up there.

The building is really nice but it is where it is and 1850 is like a Park Slope price, oy.

That's insane. We have a big ol' three-bedroom in a quiet brownstone for $1650 which, admittedly, was more than the going-rate when we moved in. But now it seems like a downright bargain.

i have booze that i need to get rid of and mixology skills (although i refuse to make any of those martini-of-the-moment concoctions... and no, i don't have any bamboo infused vodka, lemongrass rum or any of that bs- i'm a purist!) keep us posted on the partay status!

      Wow!

We've been watching them put that place up for two years...when we first moved in I thought it was full of squatters (I could see movement in there at odd hours, and it was clearly abandoned) but then the cranes came out...

Those had better be some nice studios. That's nearly what we pay for our two bedroom, one block away. (Though our place is certainly FAR from freshly renovated.)

what would be an appropriate 2 bdrm price for the area, I mean I know 1650 is too much for sure, but what's a reasonable range?

Oh they're making loot, I wonder if it's filled yet... when they showed me the 2 bdrm and said 1850, I started laughing, no no, it wasnt a joke... oh man. I was like show me the cheapest and then we can maybe talk.

to be honest, i don't know for sure- the rental market isn't my area of expertise, but from what i've heard from multi-family homeowners in the area, i think that you'd be starting at the 1300-1400 range... starting- sky's the limit, obviously...

what kid of amenties are they offering? Hardwood floors? Dishwasher? Outdoor space?

I thought I remember seeing some pictures on Craig's list that made them look like pretty basic, pretty boring rentals.

Did the $1850 2-BR have something more going for it?

To be honest I dont really remember because I was like thanks but no thanks, basically they are brand new, hard wood, full bath, dishwasher, 24hr super, laundry in the basement, everything is wired, I mean it's not like you get a continental breakfast every morning, it's basic. I think they just managed to get a lot of people who just don't know the area in.

Yeah, man... i used to be a bartender, and when i got married, i bought a bunch of bottles (at cost) for the wedding reception... well, i'm not a big fan of rum (CAN'T STAND spiced rum)... i don't drink whisky too often (prefer scotch or a good bourbon)... i'm not over 50, so i don't drink much brandy... so i have some stuff that i need to get rid of.

Well I won't be in the hood for a month but I'd love to help you with the booze, although spiced rum is gross.
