Has anyone noticed the insane, reckless driving by those 15-passenger commuter vans? I’ve nearly been hit by them on three occasions. To avoid the red light on Flatbush at Park Place, they cut up Carlton and make a left on Prospect Place (blowing through the 4-way stop). Then they speed across Prospect Place and whip back onto Flatbush. They travel at dangerously high speeds, and many times they run the red light at Prospect and Flatbush without even slowing to turn.
I would like to get the city to do something about this problem. Speed bumps would be an obvious deterrent, but I’m not sure if that’s possible or how to make it happen. I also think if the city would “un-sync” the traffic lights it would remove the incentive to cut through residential streets to avoid the traffic light on Flatbush.
I called 311 and filed a complaint today. I plan to start calling every time I see it happen (which is pretty much every day). If you live near one of these blocks and are also concerned, please call 311 and log your own complaint. I imagine the more complaints that are logged, the more quickly it will be addressed. It took 10 minutes to log the complaint.
Any other ideas on how to address this problem?
I searched the archives for info on the dollar vans, but the most recent posts I found were from a year ago. That was following a serious accident last year, so it seems to be an ongoing problem.
