That's their original way of delivering--UPS brings the new ones and they tell you to leave the old ones out. When we got our Sodastream a few years ago, I had to call them and explain my conviction that nothing left on our doorstep would last long there. We were much happier when you started being able to buy the canisters locally.

I do the local thing, too. The one time I tried to do the UPS exchange, it was a total mess.

I go through these things so quickly (seltzer addict here), and they are SO expensive, that I really wish my husband would stop saying that it's too 'dangerous' and 'complicated' for him to install a home seltzer system in my kitchen.

      Dangerous schmangerous.

If any of you happen to be passing through the w'burg area, I get my refills from the Meat Hook / Brooklyn Kitchen on Meeker. Very cool spot. Great meatz. And beer making supplies too if'n you're into that.

But yeah. Why is everything I love so g'damned expensive? We go though those canisters like...air.

Brooks Vaccum on 7th ave and about 11th or 12th street is where they are located. They sell the canisters and a handful of flavorings.

i don't know if ronnie the seltzer man is still in busines, he still delivers cases of seltzer in the old fashioned bottles, picks up the empties and leaves you a new set. this was his number: 718-464-6408 although i haven't tried to see if he's still around.

I know there's a guy in Park Slope, but I'm not sure if it's the same guy. I think he's completely booked up and there's a waiting list though.

i don't know if it's the same guy or not. last i heard -- an article in the times about 4 years ago -- there were still a dozen or so people delivering, all from the seltzer plant in canarsie. another one is eli miller, of miller beverages, 718-449-8697. but i'd guess if you can't find someone you could probably call the seltzer plant directly and ask.

I've regualrly see a guy deliver selzter out of a station wagon during the evening to buildings on Eastern Parkway. ...the service is available in Propect Heights.

how much is the refill cost? They have them at A Cook's Companion I see...which is near Trader Joe's, so it's not out of our way when buying groceries every now and then -- but the website doesn't list the cost of the refill when exchanging..

14.95$ at A Cook's Companion, same price as the delivery, minus the shipping.

Hey... I just posted on a similar blog here... Check out Basics Plus. They sell all the carbonators in all of their stores in NYC & now also on their website http://www.basicsplus.com. I think you can't get the carbonators any cheaper anywhere else. They have 1 Day Delivery ($2.99 below $50/free above $50), but you can only order them on their website when you want it delivered in Manhattan! I always get them delivered to work now since I work in the city, but live in Brooklyn.
