Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn has rolled out a letter-writing campaign asking the Public Authorities Control Board to hold off on voting on the project until the eminent domain question has been settled in the courts.

For those of you who may not know the City of Norwood, OH demolished an entire neighborhood except for the homes of those who were contesting the eminent domain seizures. After the Ohio State Supreme Court returned the property back to the homeowners, the city is left with a prairie in the center of town.

Don't let this happen to Brooklyn. Don't let this happen to Prospect Heights.

Subject: that would be the Atlantic Yards Project, of course

to clarify the project in the below is the Atlantic Yards project, just to make it clear

Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn has rolled out a letter-writing campaign asking the Public Authorities Control Board to hold off on voting on the project until the eminent domain question has been settled in the courts.

and the Public Authorities Control Board is the state board comprised of Silver, Bruno Pataki and the Governor, which has to vote unanimously on the project.

Don't let this happen to Brooklyn?

You make it seem that the *entire borough* will be a wasteland unless demolition is stopped. The footprint is a tiny portion of Brooklyn and demolition would leave 99.9999% of the borough untouched.

Drama is all you guys know. Three years later and you're still believing that scare tactics will work.

Either way, thanks for the information. I'll be sure to write the board to express my support of the project.

      Please do.

If you would like these 22 acres to sit vacant because the PACB approves the project and the plaintiffs win their case that is your right.[/youtube]

... just imagining how nice it would be to have a prairie on Atlantic. Do you think we could stock it with game?

setting a precedent for large scale (and as many will certainly argue) irresponsible development WILL most certainly have an effect on the entire borough

it is important, (for those who are against the atlantic yards) to make one's opposition heard, not only to reduce the impact of this particular project but to make it very clear to other developers that the residents of brooklyn care about their communities and will join together to fight to preserve them.

The language of the letter asks that the PACB decision be postponed until the eminent domain cases are resolved. In all seriousness, when is that likely to happen?

well that would be guesswork. its possible it could be as soon as January or or as late as spring.

it does seem to make sense not to move forward until it is known if the project is premised on an illegal or legal use of eminent domain.

The PACB decision is due sometime around December, right? Assuming they approve, is that the last hurdle other than the eminent domain case? And if it is, is Ratner really planning on beginning construction ASAP? Won't there be further endless amounts of delays, a la the usual construction schedule in NY?

PACB may be in December. this is true. PACB would be the last official political decision. What would remain are potentially lawsuits and political negotiations. putting aside the vagaries of the market.

Not sure about that. OnProspectPark seemed like it happened overnight.

well, that's one building with no public funding, no legal issues and no demolition required.

      quite a different animal.
