      Come one, come all!

Once again, the "official" DH "air hockey, ping pong, pool, whatever" night is coming this Tuesday (8/9) at 8 PM at Brownstone Billiards.

      Bring brown bag beverages!

      See Isa go for blood!

      IT'S ON!

Help us decide whether to use Muddy Waters as a "staging area" to meet before going to Brownstone Billiards

See the underutilized DH calendar for details:

Is Brownstone Billards the place in Park Slope on the corner of 7th and Flatbush?

Yes, that's Brownstone. I'm 99% coming, but I'll be playing pool.

So what do you guys think about the MW staging area idea?

pensodyssey » We should have a board outing to M.W.. The possibilities for hilarity are endless.

Be warned, the stereotype about brown people and racket sports is true. I will be there with my custom Butterfly blade to lay the proverbial smack down.

it's true, it's true... but i'm brown, too... so, the question is- 1) brown-on-brown smackdown OR B) team up (i haven't played good doubles in ages!) and dominate our fairer-skinned foes...?!

it has been a while- i'll have to knock of a little rust, but i like our chances...

hmmm... when i used to play with my buddies, i would regularly put my old trophy (2nd place from a parks and rec tourney almost 15 years ago) up for grabs... i wonder if i should put that on the line... my wife certainly wouldn't mind if i lost it!

Once 11238 posts what time MW closes, we can pick an assembly time.

If it's closed by near 8p, should we do Chocolate Monkey instead?

It is with great regret that I must announce that I will not be able to make it tonight. Cold symptoms have set in and I really must get rest in order to be healthy for travel this weekend.

My heart aches to have to replace brown-bagged beer and table tennis for echinacea.

Team Brown - hit a looped drive winner and pour a forty for the temporarily departed.

Team Whitey - wait, is there a Team Whitey??

      Don't bother with the echinacea:

NO! All I said is that I'd charge the net, I didn't say I would win. Just break the ping pong table, which I suppose is a sort of winning.

      HOMER

Son, I know it hurts. I still remember my first lifetime banning.

We see Homer's recollection. He is at a Gallagher show. Gallagher is about to hit a melon on a stool, but someone takes it at the last minute, and the mallet rebounds and hits him in the face.

      GALLAGHER

      Ow! Hey, where's my melon?

We see Homer is eating it. The scene then cuts to Homer being thrown out.

      GALLAGHER

...and you are banned for life from all of my performances, and TV specials!

      HOMER

But I can still see your movies, right?

Gallagher growls angrily and slams the door. Homer starts crying, and we dissolve back into the present, where Homer is also crying.

      HOMER

(he sniffs) And I never saw Gallagher again.

Have you ever tried Zicam? Works for me, though some people who are suing the manufacturer claim that it made them permanently lose their sense of smell. YMMV.

I'll be there, with "dennisobell" and my friend Jamie if I can persuade him.

Are we really going to MW at 7:40 or should we just meet at BB? Sounds like some people are going to be running late, and I have this chronic "oh crap, what's for dinner?" problem that could make me late as well.

I don't know if you really want to open up the homeopathy can of worms here. Let's just say that as a scientist, I'm highly skeptical.

Re: Muddy Waters, it seems like there is at least some interest in the "rude-in". I think it would be really funny. Besides, if you're running late, you can pick something up at El Gran Castillo De Jagua. It's right across the street from Brownstone Billiards.

In all seriousness, that's where I'm having dinner tonight. That picture just stirred the craving!

I'm no scientist, but I say that the best thing for a cold is (conveniently) the chicken soup from El Castillo de Jagua.

It's full of juicy chicken organs and bone marrow and some carrots and noodles. You should eat a large sized one for the best results. You might need a second dose in 12 hours.

I am not a scientist except in the science of sweet, sweet lovin'. And even there, most of my experiments are failures owing to lack of a control group.

That said, echinacea seems to work for me, even if it is just Hawthorne effect.

Hmm, that chicken soup is sounding good too.

New meta-analysis of homeopathy studies in The Lancet (the premier British medical journal):

Cut and paste the URL into your browser address bar, since I can't get the "URL" link feature to work:

      http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6T1B-4GYH5HK-12&_user=10&_handle=V-WA-A-W-BE-MsSWYWW-UUA-U-AAWDZWDDCE-AAWCWUYCCE-BUVBVAYUU-BE-U&_fmt=summary&_coverDate=09%2F02%2F2005&_rdoc=31&_orig=browse&_srch=%23toc%234886%232005%23996330512%23605006!&_cdi=4886&view=c&_acct=C000050221&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=10&md5=2da2f8f000b48e7eb374571e217cb2d5

Short version: all evidence seems to indicate that any benefit of homeopathic therapy is due to placebo effect.
