What's going into the space at St John and Underhill. (NOT talking about the St John's Market)

      Cafe?

      Shoe store?

      Hair salon?

      Barbershop?

      Chinese restaurant?

the permit says a six story addition. Somehow, the laundry building will become much taller.

...must be some advantage to not tearing it down. I wonder if you get grandfathered into the old building code, if you simply add 6 stories to a 2 story bldg...

I had heard about that plan two years ago and read that it lost funding because the footprint of the building was too small to support an elevator building for basically 700 sq floor thru apartments (think of the maintenance costs!)

...I have no idea if this plan has come back to life, but can't imagine that it could be sold as an addition.

Something has to remain of the original structure for it to be an addition right? ...anyone know the building code?

P.S. original plan would have created 12 stories (ten plus 2), new plan seems to create only 8 (six plus 2).

      Okay, interesting -- thanks.

What I heard is that they couldn't get a demolition permit because the lot is too small, so they are (were?) indeed planning to keep the original structure embedded in the new mini-tower.

If you're looking at the permits, then I guess that is indeed the case.

According to the Brownstoner post, it was originally 10. But 8 will be a little closer to in scale with its surroundings.
