I know that the BedStuy Home Depot has sod regularly, any place else?
...not that there's anything wrong with that.

Try the landscape/garden store on New York Avenue in Crown Heights South. Its on the other side of Empire Blvd about three blocks after the street turns to a two way. Good guys, they've always have what I'm looking for. Also, I can't recall if the florist/landscaper is still in the triangle between the Wiliamsburg bank building and Flatbush, but they used to be another place where sod was available.

Subject: New Nursery in Red Hook

For the gardeners out there, I had a terrific experience this last weekend...I went to red hook to check out the new outpost of the Chelsea Garden Center right by the Fairway. But first, I saw a little sign for another nursery at Pier 41 at the end of Van Dyke st.

The woman who owns it, Hope, was very well informed, had great specimens and was trying to offer plants that were organic, native etc. A really great experience.

She is even looking at the growers for me for some specialty items and calling me when she finds things!

I'm sure she would stock sod if you called her.

also, after talking to her, the new Chelsea Garden center came off rather badly with their expensive plants and poorly informed staff!

      Subject: Sod

I went to the Liberty Sunset Nursery in Red Hook this morning. It is a beautiful setting and there is a huge selection of plants----unusual perennials. and lots of annuals. Hope, the owner is friendly and very helpful. She said Channel 7 was coming today to film.

It is a little hard to find. Go on Van Dyke towards the water, but ver left before the dead end. There is a sign for the nursery and for Key Lime pies. Very much worth the trip. Much more low key and user friendly than the other new, big nursery.
