As expected, I am pleased to report that Kimchi Grill has developed a loyal following among those who frequent Washington Commons.

We brought it in once to Washington Commons and just felt terrible because of the smell. Chavellas or Gueros are our go-to for Washington Commons meals now.

He corrected the issue on the spot by removing the rounding feature and will only round down manually, to 9.75 for example in this case, as the original intent was for all the prices to naturally come to multiples of .25 after tax, without having to round up or down. He refunded me 25 cents. Very nice guy in his manner with speaking with me and dealing with this.

Dare I say it was not a glitch and likely intentional from the start and now they don't know how to undo the "problem." They probably do want to correct this but because they hardcoded the machine from the get-go they are having problems changing it. If they restore the cash register to factory settings perhaps they would lose all the menu items and would be a headache to start "clean"

I don't mind the rounding if it goes BOTH WAYS. They were only rounding up and got caught with their hands in the cookie jar (kimchi jar???) too many times (as would happen with ONLY rounding up).

But hey, the food is still really good!
I had often seen the truck driving around but never had the chance to have their food. I had the short rib bowl, which has some sides in the bowl that aren't included with the burrito, along with the kimchi fried rice. I thought it was really tasty and complex for "fast" food, and was glad to be able to get food like this in this area. It seemed very spicy in the restaurant, though I opted out of the "extra spicy" offering, though my small leftovers at hime didn't seem unusually spicy, so maybe it was a momentary thing. They told me that the short rib is the least spicy item, but the dish could seem spicier because of the sides. Can't wait to take my s/o there when she returns from her trip.

I had the issue where some change was added on to my bill, 20 cents. I showed them the receipt and politely told them I had heard this was a problem. The owner Phil got right on the phone with the cash register/computer company and had a very long talk with them, long enough for me to finish my entire meal. He then sat down with me and talked with me at great length about the issue, which he was mortified about. It seems the computer was misprogrammed by the company that supplied it to round up to the next 25 cents even if the price was, say, 9.76.

I forgot to ask if they will be expanding their menu as another poster suggested. There are basically 3 categories -- taco, burrito and bowl -- using the same 4 sets of ingredients -- short rib, pork, grilled chicken and vegetarian/edamame, except for the Korean fried chicken taco. Each ingredient has a few things that go with it to make it unique and interesting. Hopefully they will add new dishes as time goes by.

As far as the rounding issue goes, I trust it's resolved now and that it was an honest mistake, though I'm surprised it wasn't caught sooner. If they wanted to make an extra 20 cents all they'd have to do is make their prices 20 cents higher, not add some extra crazy charge hoping people wouldn't notice. This could only happen by accident.

I told the owner about this thread so maybe he'll pop by.
